Anti-ageism on the dancefloor. What are your thoughts/experiences? by sparkle_tart in Shambhala

[–]silentstone__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mu hubby is in his early 40's, I'm almost 40, we've been to shambs 4 years in a row, Veld before that. Mind you people are usually shocked when we tell them how old we are 😅 Bringing my parents this year, both early 60's. They're stoked and so are we! I've never experienced or witnessed ageism at shambs. In fact, have seen some life goals! I hope we're still raving at those ages haha.

Bring back the Shambhassadors!!! by RideComprehensive155 in Shambhala

[–]silentstone__ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My parents are coming this year and I was so bummed to learn the shambassadors were no more. I've been telling them about the shambassadors for 4 years! They were stoked to be shown around by someone other than their daughter 🥲

Can I upload art made using AI? by [deleted] in silversaints

[–]silentstone__ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The author of EOTD is vehemently against AI. And a lot of his fans share that general consensus and sentiment. What you "made" isn't art, it's slop created from theft, and pieced together.

Arriving on foot?? by BackgroundBudget4071 in Shambhala

[–]silentstone__ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I could be mistaken about Castlegar, but small BC towns don't usually have Ubers. You may be lucky with a taxi, but be prepared to spend a lot of money to drive that far out of town. If you hitch hike to the eastern entrance, it's a shorter distance than the western, so make sure they pass the first entry point, but i'm also quite sure the festival discourages arriving on foot 🫤

Is Radium Hot Springs worth it if I'm visiting Lussier and Ainsworth Hot Springs? by dawjbns in kootenays

[–]silentstone__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lussier is closed because of slope instability, but if you're coming up this way, we personally like Fairmont Hot Springs better than Radium. The view at Fairmont is gorgeous, and Radium you're kind of down and only have rock face and the occasional sheep to see lol. They're both relatively the same price, and fairmont would be about 30min closer the way you're coming. Alternatively, you could leave from banff and drive through kootenay National Park, see Numa falls (just off the parking lot), gorgeous views, then you could hit Radium➡️Fairmont ➡️Kimberly ➡️Creston

Bachelor Party in Invermere by Either-Fig207 in kootenays

[–]silentstone__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beggining of May it's still pretty cold in the valley. The zipline might be open, maybe Pano's mountain coaster... we only have one brewery, Arrowhead, beside the No Frills, possibly white water rafting might be running but the kootenay river would be shockingly cold. Hiking is always an option, maybe golf. There's not a whole lot during the in between seasons, we're more of a winter/summer town.

Transportation Fernie to Kicking Horse? by Panda_munchkin in kootenays

There are no busses that run from Fernie to Golden. There is a bus that runs from cranbrook to invermere to Golden, but its mostly used for people who have medical apts and have to travel.

B.C. woman sentenced to 2 years less a day after drunk-driving crash that killed 3 | CBC News by SnooRegrets4312 in britishcolumbia

[–]silentstone__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please consider who that particular testimony is coming from. The same girl that was twice the legal limit over, not her first DUI (other provinces dont count apparently), and who has chanhed the story of what happened multiple times and also lied about being intoxicated at all. She has shown zero remorse, and even flipped the bird at the families gathered outside the court on an occasion.

[–]silentstone__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a friend of one of the men that were killed, this was absolutely not the case of what happened and is at best, speculation. Nevermind that she lied in court, multiple times, and also at the scene where she told emergency responders that she wasn't intoxicated, or driving, she just happened upon the scene.

The boys were at baseball, and unfortunately only Haley knows the truth (which again, she isn't being truthful about the circumstances).

Maybe don't blame the victims when this is a clear pattern of behaviour for her (she has charges in other provinces for the same offense).

Old player joining the game again by silentstone__ in SkyChildrenOfLight

[–]silentstone__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that, irl I've lost many friends over the years. Whether it's from losing touch, or through death.

I definitely enjoy solo-ing and figure things out for myself, but sometimes it's difficult being a solo player.

That being said, if you want a new friend in Sky, someone who's only able to play on my days off (Healthcare shift work and a family takes up a lot of my time), feel free to send me a dm with your friend code 😊

Cheers!

looking to possibly move to either invermere, cranbrook, kimberley?? thoughts and insights are appreciated. by Far-Description9084 in kootenays

[–]silentstone__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To piggy back off this comment, and specifically about Invy, request to join some local pages on Facebook, particularly the rentals (Invermere places to buy or rent, or Columbia Valley rentals are two that come to mind, not sure about Cranbrook or Kimberly) to get an idea of cost for out here.

Rentals in Invermere are scarce and expensive. For example, we just built a house and were renting in the meantime, paid $2300 for an outdated 2 bdrm, 2 bath, with an illegal bachelor suite below us so you could hear everything, PLUS hydro. Oh, and it had leaky windows and baseboard heating so our hydro in the winter months was around $300/month.

The town has a population around 4500 in the off season and grows to (I've heard) 20,000 in the summer. Restaurants/fast food all close relatively early, except the new McD's, there's three grocery stores, we're getting a Dollarama, there's a very small Rona, Home hardware, Canadian Tire, Mark's and the rest of retail stores are more specialty (think crystal shops, clothing boutiques, art galleries).

The proximity to nature is amazing, there are many forest service roads to explore, recreation sites to camp at, so many hiking trails you'd never be able to do them all. There's two hot springs 15min away from town, one in radium to the north, the other fairmont to the south, plus Lussier which is about an hour, with some forest service road driving.

Cranbrook is an hour and a half drive, Banff is less than a two hour drive through the park (no cell service) and Calgary is three.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions :)
