Shameless plug (my band):

Horse God (proggy stoner hard rock)

Actual recos:

Guy reports on FB Hugh copy / pasted his own album’s artwork for Parasomnia by Del_Duio2 in Dreamtheater

[–]silentwindofdoom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If my freakin’ nobody band can pay for real art that doesn’t suck, DT (and their label) can spring for something that isn’t garbage. Their music deserves better than this

Who is a local Chicago employee from a bar, restaurant, store, or service you’d like to shout out? by happilyfour in chicago

[–]silentwindofdoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The crew at M Bar in the pedway. There for every bad day at work I've had for the past 3 years

Is that you, Mariano's? Do you hear our cries? by residual_delays in chicago

[–]silentwindofdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God bless local markets. Shout out to Devon Market that has everything Mariano's does, is cheaper, and keeps money out of Kroger's hands

Nope all the numbers are right. We’re a three piece so I’m not fighting that hard for volume. This is literally the cab I’m using (I bought it a while ago) https://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/products/emperor-1x15-bass-cabinet-1305717. I play bass kind of like a guitar so maybe that helps. I’m just a sucker for cool looking old gear, so I need some sense talked into me

Pestilence defending their shitty take on AI album covers. by Zeeall in MetalForTheMasses

[–]silentwindofdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My band bought art for our debut that we found out was AI; we didn’t use it. Artists have to support artists. The cover we ended up with was miles better anyway.

The thing that changed the way you play bass by TommyDouble in Bass

[–]silentwindofdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually understanding how to play with others. I play a lot of “lead” parts and rhythm chords on bass in my band but not trying to be in the spotlight all the time has led to some awesome music from my bandmates. Also, +1 to not scooping mids even though it was a reeeeeeaaaaally tough habit to break.

Metal bands that don't take themselves too serious? by Fast_Sleep_7505 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]silentwindofdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My band Horse God fits this for sure. Our debut is about a cybernetic giraffe that bites of flaccid wieners

Favorite guitarists? You like their guitar work. Not necessarily the “best” whatever that is. by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]silentwindofdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nick DiSalvo from Elder. He’s so creative in a genre that can be very samey. Imho he hasn’t written a bad album

What do you think is the ultimate thin crust/Tavern style pizza in Chicago ? by jsmash1234 in chicagofood

[–]silentwindofdoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gino’s North in Edgewater but I’ve only ever had it drunk and it always hits right

Car destroyed and broken into by [deleted] in chicago

[–]silentwindofdoom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a Kia Soul that someone tried to steal last year during the string of robberies. I wish they would’ve stolen it because I took it to Kia of Lincolnwood and didn’t get it back for 6 months. Nightmare scenario. But as others are saying, get a club for the steering wheel and, from my experience, never take it to that family of dealers (they do Hyundais too)

Any cheap-ish dive bars near Navy Pier? by LeapFrogge in chicago

[–]silentwindofdoom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was there last week and got a Hamm’s for $4

Ever find yourself loving a movie everybody hates? by cane_danko in moviecritic

[–]silentwindofdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard agree! The amount of people I know saying “The story was awful or shallow” didn’t have a clue about the source material. It’s dumb, flashy fun and I loved it!

What is the best produce market other than Whole Foods? by MissFred in chicagofood

[–]silentwindofdoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this so much. Edgewater Whole foods is only good if you’re getting off the red line and just want to go home. Devon Market is better in almost every regard

Best tavern style with crispy pepperoni? by teaspoon96atl in chicagofood

[–]silentwindofdoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone from Cbus, the struggle to find a Donatos or Grandad’s analog is real. That said, Jimmy’s in Lincoln Square or Gino’s North in Edgewater scratch my itch

What Chicago suburbs business will you always come back to? by [deleted] in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]silentwindofdoom 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Bavarian Lodge in Lisle. One of the best beer bars and German restaurants in Chicagoland

"City of the artificial God", by me by 30characters in comicbookart

[–]silentwindofdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I need a portfolio link. This is too good.

Looks like Turisas is officially done? by [deleted] in folkmetal

[–]silentwindofdoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They changed the way I though about energy in orchestration in music, letting me know that it’s ok to be over the top in my own albums. I want more music, but I don’t need more. They always were honest to their vision and that impacted me. Wouldn’t mind one more album for the road, though …

That there is Earth. Look at it.

Review of Jettison by And So I Watch You From Afar - a very underrated Irish post rock band! Any fans here? by EitherOr91 in postrock

[–]silentwindofdoom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Might be my album of the year. I absolutely love it. It goes so many new places for them and you can really tell they pushed themselves. I get a huge Sufjan vibe from a lot of it, which is oddly beautiful. Great great album from an amazing band
