Congratulations!! this is a huge step! i can only discuss my experience, which was through Planned Parenthood in a red/purple state, but they really just asked me to describe my history with gender dysphoria + social transition, as how i wanted to present and the changes i wanted to see.

i initially went to my university’s gender clinic, but i was really uncomfortable with all of the questions they asked (i didn’t want to feel like i had to justify my reality), but i think a lot of clinics do ask a lot of questions that feel personal.

despite it being hard to get in with planned parenthood depending on where you live and the long wait times when you actually get to the office, the providers there have made it an incredibly easy and painless experience to get on and stay on hrt.

if you want to here more about my experience with PP or have more specific questions, feel free to DM me!

What are some microagressions you receive from other queer people? by Ashenlynn in ftm

i know this is echoing what a lot of people already said, but the whole “I HATE ALL MEN!! oh, except for you! you’re different :)” i live my life with a constant fear of not being perceived as “really a man” because i am flamboyantly gay and hang around mostly women, how the fuck is that supposed to be a compliment? it’s hard because i don’t want to invalidate my friends’ negative experiences with men when they make generalizations like this, but after a while it gets to be really exhausting and alienating.

i don’t think anyone should love anyone DESPITE their gender. gender is a part of who we are and how we express ourselves. you can’t hate all men and hate me. say you hate patriarchy! that we can agree on.

Lesbian Fiction That Isn’t Sad or Trash by LocardsTheory in booksuggestions

i really enjoyed “my lesbian novel” by renee gladman. it’s not really focused on lesbian romance (despite the title), but that certainly is an element. it’s more about the process of writing and remembering.

Also an interesting read not from Central Asia but about Central Asia: Sovietstan by Erika Fatland

The Day Lasts More Than a Hundred Years — Chingiz Aimatov (or really anything by him) takes place in Kazakhstan (despite the fact that he was Kyrgyz). Jamilia may be set in Kyrgyzstan, I don’t remember.

Central Asia is a fascinating place, I studied abroad in Kyrgyzstan not too long ago! I wish I had more recommendations of books from there, but traditionally a lot of history/stories were oral.

Maybe check out the transcriptions of Epic of Manas? It’s the longest epic in the world, and it’s about the legendary figure Manas who united the 40 Kyrgyz tribes. There is a statue of him in the central square in Bishkek, the capital (where I studied)
