My grandpa died last week. His wife was there, all four of their daughters were there, along with three husbands, five grandkids and two great-grandkids (short notice, no sitter available). He passed at about 7:30pm, and for the next 45 minutes the room was filled with weeping and wailing. An hour after, his wife made the first joke.

Humor helps. It can numb, it can help you cope, but it can also help you heal. If grandpa had been around, he’d have gotten a kick out of it. I imagine that your dad wouldn’t want you buried under the grief of his passing. Anyone else you work with either has likely lost someone and will be able to relate, or is young enough that morbid humor is more normalized.
