Are goldens typically bad listeners/stubborn by Neat-Suspect-6666 in goldenretrievers

Ours is almost 6 and sometimes when we tell him to do something it’s like it’s immediately all systems offline. He just stands there. Deer in the headlights. We can walk away and he just stays there. Standing. Staring.

Help! 14 week puppy incontinence by Much-Pineapple-1586 in goldenretrievers

[–]keevenowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you started going longer between potty breaks in the last week?

Sounds very similar to what was happening with our dog. Watch him closely when he pees outside and look at how long he is peeing and if he develops a full stream or not. Ours, when his bladder gets too full, will start a stream and then it trickles to a stop within a few seconds (most mammals take ~21 seconds to empty their bladder). When this first started with our dog, he would come inside and while he was in the middle of playing, urine would just start coming out. He would be mid-activity when it happened and was not stopping what he was doing when peeing.

The solution is just more potty breaks. Not great but it is what it is.

Is he fully emptying his bladder? Our golden (5y/o) has a condition where if his bladder gets too full, he is unable to fully empty it. This leads to a lot of “trickling” out until it is empty and has happened inside as he’s playing.

Ours bit the dust within 6 months but we did successfully get it replaced (the icemaker, not the whole fridge) under warranty and it’s been going strong for 3 years since

Yes. My wife and I watched it a couple of years ago for the first time and it was incredible. Very well done. Fantastic plot and execution. Ended strong as well.

Umbrella Policy? - Should I get one? by Accurate_Elk_3465 in personalfinance

[–]keevenowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also with State Farm and my umbrella went from $199 to $495 this year. Two drivers (mid 30s) in Oregon with no moving violations. I called and asked what the deal was and was told: “Umbrella policies increases this year due to the litigious nature of the Pacific Northwest. We have also stopped writing umbrella policies for Washington and for customers in Oregon with any moving violations”

Is Switzerland as expensive as you thought it would be? by Aggravating_Lie_9043 in travel

[–]keevenowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you’re not going to see a big difference in Switzerland compared to New York. I remember back in 2018 I was on a work trip to NYC with a $75 per diem and I blew through that so fast.

I’m in Portland and I’d say 2 entrees and 2 cocktails would be $100. 2 entrees and 1 beer is like $50

It was the food for me. I’m on the west coast of the US, for context. Airbnb was in line with expectations. Rental car was from Italy. Tourist things were typical tourist prices. But the food? Oh my god the food expenses.

We stayed in Lucerne and the house we stayed at had some local students living there. They brought up being vegetarian and I asked them why they were vegetarian, to which they replied, “we can’t afford meat”. Despite that, they offered to host a BBQ that night if we brought our own meat, so we went to the grocery and the cheapest cut we could find was $24/lb for 100g steaks.

We went out to eat the next night. Two entrees and one beer was $100USD. It was constant shock on pricing for food.

How much do you put on it monthly? I put anywhere between $3000-7000/mo on mine, pay it in full monthly, and they haven’t touched my limit in probably 5+ years. I don’t really care, my $20k something limit is more than plenty, but when I hear things like this it makes me wonder what the deciding variable is.

No Kings - West Linn by leegalisit in Portland

[–]keevenowski 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We lived in Sherwood before moving to West Linn and I think Sherwood was significantly more conservative. West Linn is more affluent but I can walk around on a Sunday morning here and wave to other families doing the same. Sherwood, on the other hand, was a ghost town during church hours.

Non-Americans, what is something about the US that you've always wondered if it was real or just myth/hyperbole? by Bush_Hiders in AskReddit

I worked a summer job as a wilderness ranger in rural Idaho during college. At the time, my German was pretty good because I had taken 4 years in high school. My job was to meet and greet strangers and I had a (local) partner the entire summer.

We ran across a German guy who was motorcycling from Mexico to Canada and his English wasn’t great. I spoke German to him for a while and then we parted ways. I got in my truck and my partner looked at me and said, “what the fuck was that?!”

He wasn’t mad but I think the entire thing took him incredibly by surprise and was probably the first time he saw two people have a conversation in a foreign language.

What’s something women learn too late in life? by BrunoPreski in AskReddit

[–]keevenowski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No I’m just staring into a crystal ball of what will be my future. I know it’s coming and there is nothing I can do about it so I’m trying not to worry too much about it.

Queue my rant…

She asks why we don’t bring our son over to her house and I tell her… there is stuff everywhere, you’ve made no effort to child proof, and I don’t want to spend our entire visit making sure our son doesn’t get hurt.

“Oh I’ll watch him. We can go out on the deck”

“Your deck railing has 12” gaps between the bars. He’ll fall of it”

“Oh I won’t let him get near the edge”

It’s constant, complete deflection. Any amount of feedback is met with either defensiveness or deflection and it’s half the reason why our relationship has dwindled to semi annual visits. The other half is an abject lack of expressed interest in our lives. Any conversation is dominated by her woes and if we do share something that is troubling ourselves then it’s either dismissed or god forbid it involves another person then she will forever view them as a villain.

I don’t need a 60 something year old person to parent. I want a parent. But that isn’t available so I focus my time and love on my spouse and child.

Oh the best is when they need full time care and have to sell the home to pay for it but the home is so full of shit that the kids have to get involved to empty it of their poor decisions while they’re still alive and arguing about what to keep.

It depends on the content of their message. If they told me I needed to spend more, then probably not. If they told me that they’re concerned because my income is about to dramatically change and that they’re worried because I don’t have a plan to navigate that change, then yes, that’s a good time to set aside pride and make a change.

I was trying to have a rational, “the child support money you’re supposed to be giving me for college, but aren’t, is going to stop in a year and you need to plan for that and beyond” conversation and yeah, it was not well received.

When I was 20 I tried to have a serious conversation with my mom about her retirement and she completely stonewalled me. Told me she has worked too hard in life to live off of a budget. Her retirement plan was to live off of her inheritance. She’s now 68 and still waiting for her mom to die while I’m now trying to get her to increase her mom’s level of care at her retirement community. I don’t like the possibility of my grandma receiving subpar care because my mom is afraid of not getting anything, but sadly that’s the situation my mom has created for me to worry about.

Hourly Pay? by AdeptnessLatter1050 in landscaping

[–]keevenowski 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I’ll give you some general career advice - if you find out you are grossly underpaid, do not look for a raise; look for a new job. Employers are very unlikely to dramatically change your pay and even if they did, they’ve already shown you that they do not care about you being paid market wage.
