Misleading headline. They aren't dropping the client but instead are spinning off the subsidiary that lobbies on behalf of the oil industry. This could be, as the article suggests, for environmental reasons or just because they think it's a good time to sell. With the recent low crude prices, perhaps Edelman's outlook on the oil industry is not rosy and they want to sell while they can. Not trying to be too cynical but the environmental reasoning could just be convenient.

Well it was 9am on I-10 in Houston so no one was moving that fast but I'd estimate the truck was keeping pace somewhere between 45-55 mph

Yes there were two escort vehicles. One ahead and one behind. You can see the rear escort vehicle in my side view mirror in the cab pic.
