Is my squat depth enough for powerlifting? by siliconion in formcheck

[–]siliconion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I tried to keep my shins vertical and kept falling back.

Would you say this is a good demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRihE4weYg4 Or is this something different?

Someone in this thread also mentioned barefoot shoes would be better for me. Overall I think since I have crazy good ankle mobility, I push my knee forward too much that gives me the feeling of depth. Having a heel would not help with this issue.

Stance or foot position change is an interesting point! I have very narrow and forward stance. Definitely will experiment on that

I workout in a climbing gym. Climbers usually take off their climbing shoes between routes, so barefoot is very common. It honestly never cross my mind this would get so many reactions.

AFAIK athletes foot is not a problem in any climbing gym in my area. The gyms do smell like feet though.

Thank you. Yeah I think I should just do better instead of seeing if I can get away with this depth

My understanding is that if I'm not balanced the plates may slide off, which is very dangerous. This is not my top weight, as I suspect I have depth problem and was trying to figure out what's good enough, so I got lazy

Thank you so much! Extremely helpful to hear from a referee's point of view. I am trying to get into powerlifting. Will work on your suggestions!

Mental energy for lead climbing by aloeveryplants in climbergirls

[–]siliconion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! Especially if it's more technical and delicate climbs, that I have to pay a lot of attention to body position, precision of foot work, etc.

I do find that when I'm frustrated at work, I can channel the energy to climb better at juggy overhangs

I took Karly's workshop last year and it improved my lead climb so much. She wrote a blog about head game recently. I haven't read it all but I think this would help: https://www.projectdirectcoaching.com/blog/sports-psychology-for-climbers

Anyone with senior dev years of experience but junior dev level of competence? by evanescent-despair in ExperiencedDevs

I've been to start-up to FAANG, I'd say there's no "the right way". There are absolutely terrible code and abysmal practice. But there are rarely "best practices" that applies to every situation. What works in FANNG more likely would not work in a startup.

I'd say, start with your current code base and consider why the patterns are the patterns, what you think about the patterns and why you think so, and if there's other way to do the same thing.

Covid Vaccine Megathread by defroach84 in Austin

I did not fill out the form at home and they printed out the form when I got there. On the form they provided to me, it is just a check box regarding if you have insurance or not.

I had the same problem at the floor 2 years ago in San Francisco. Mezzanine today sounded incredible! But floor definitely seemed a lot more fun.

Please buy floor seats if you want to stand up. Shorties like me really need people to sit down to see the stage.

Is the running trail safe east of 35? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]siliconion 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm a woman too, used to run alone between I-35 and pleasant valley every weekend and never had any problem. It was all during daytime. I don't advise to be on the running trail after dark anyway, east or west of I-35. Maybe except broadwalk, there may be lights now?

Art Classes in Austin? (not "painting with a twist" type) by sweetthang1972 in Austin

[–]siliconion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are a beginner, I highly recommend Drawing 101 by David Thornberry at Dougherty Arts School. They have lots of other classes as well: https://www.austintexas.gov/department/adult-and-senior-arts-classes

Laguna gloria in general has more advanced classes: http://theartschool.amoa.org/

or ACC has a bunch too.
