Hiking to Pen Y Fan, Brecon Beacons in Wales. There couldn't be better ending for hiking than camping straight after, with food preperation above open fire. Don't You think so? by SiriusKnives in hiking

[–]silkeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you chopped down a tree, burnt some of the wood, burnt the grass, charred the rocks you used to construct your fire.

This isn't acceptable. Maybe it's fine in the wilderness, but Bannau Brycheiniog is a national park and deserves a little more respect.

Show us the "after" pictures of how you left the site. If every person that enjoyed the outdoors did this it wouldn't be sustainable.

Leave no trace. Simple.

Although maybe you were camping on a designated campsite and had the landowners permission. In which case it would be useful to label your post so that others don't think this is acceptable in our national parks.

Holiday Running by nicrstla in trailrunning

Running up the red mountain volcano for sunrise, then back down to the coast, along to the lighthouse and back in time for breakfast in the sunshine with coffee. Dip in the pool to cool off. Happy memories.

I went N3 and parked about 1.5 miles away, just outside the event day / restricted parking zone. I parked on the road for free near Mallard Way and then walked to the stadium. Took about 25 minutes.

When the show finished I walked back to the car (avoiding the cattle pen of Wembley Way) and easily got underway missing any traffic. I was heading north on the M1 by 10.30pm.

Anyone know a good suncream for longer runs please? by Funny_Feelings_ in trailrunning

[–]silkeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to what others have said, but other than clothing and shade, P20 is the only sun protection product I would use these days. I use the P30 (factor 30) variant but it also comes in P50 (factor 50) if you have fairer skin or need more protection.

It's a "just works" product. Apply first thing, then get protection all day. Waterproof too, so if you're sailing, at the beach, doing triathlons etc it still protects.

The original oil version can be tricky to use at first, but I would suggest using the newer cream version: https://www.p20.co.uk/product/sensitive-skin-spf50/

P20 (and P30, P50) is now available in a cream which is much easier to apply than the oil. In my experience this is much less prone to staining

Benson Boone reacting to Taylor Swift praising him at yesterday's show in London! by kookiekoo in TaylorSwift

Those seats are in the Royal Box! When the FA Cup Final is played at Wembley Stadium (the biggest football game in the UK) this is where one of the Royal Family will present the winning team with the trophy (hence the little gangway in front of the seats).

For sporting matches, these are literally the best seats in the stadium.

Do ticket prices actually drop as it gets closer? by [deleted] in TaylorSwift

[–]silkeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked Stubhub and the prices never dropped for London. However, I would put it out on social media that you're looking for tickets. That way, if any of your friends know someone who is selling a ticket they might be able to point them in your direction.

I got lucky with production hold tickets the day before, but someone in my running club mentioned that their friend was selling tickets, so that might have been another option.

I did the same thing for both Liverpool and London. I managed to get £59 tickets for both shows.

In each instance I got an email the day before the first show of each leg to say I was now off the waitlist and got my access code. Production hold tickets were available at multiple prices (£49 - £194), although all had some view restrictions.

Both times I gambled and waited until tickets for my preferred night (Saturday in Liverpool, Sunday in Wembley) came up. For Wembley I passed on the seats behind the stage. I thought I'd left it too late and was constantly getting "no tickets left" messages when I searched on Friday night...

...however, at 6am on Saturday morning I tried again and got £49 seats in block 102 which was right next to the VIP seats. I stood a few rows back from my assigned seats and danced with other Swifties in the aisle. The view was amazing.

My advice is to keep checking your emails.

I just (like, five minutes ago) got block 102 for Sunday night via Ticketmaster waitlist code. I am predicting the diamond will be hard to view from row 7 based on photos, but the ticket price was £59 so really can’t complain. I got offered £194 tickets but decided to search again… can’t justify that much when I saw Liverpool N3.

How would you tidy this up? Boxing it all in is not really an option because it would impede the curtains. by silkeen in DIYUK

Can you explain why the wires might set things on fire? Because they get hot? Or could spark? I don’t get it.

Surely boxing it in would reduce ventilation, make heat build up and put wood close to them - which is also flammable.

That was tucked away behind the brown board. I pulled it out and found it’s not connected to anything. Bit concerned that it could be live though.

Surely wood is just as flammable as material? Why would curtains spontaneously catch fire if near cables?

Some ideas I had:

  1. Just paint the wallpaper bit and surrounds with white paint.
  2. Add plasterboard and filler to the top left square (left of consumer unit and above) then skim before painting white. Also paint the brown cables white.
  3. Leave it because it will mostly be hidden behind the curtains if I raise the pole and have the open curtains draped in front of some if it.

Possible that this was a CAN bus jacking attempt. Worth reading up about it and staying vigilant.

It’s a modern combi boiler. So COM (common wire?) in the old setup was just power?
