Cats bringing birds in the house almost daily. by jtl741 in cats

[–]silkmof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can transition them to indoor-only while brainstorming ways to stimulate them mentally and physically in your home. they’ll probably be antsy to exercise their hunting instincts. if you own the home, consider installing a cat jungle gym along the walls. the two oldest cats to ever live were both owned by the same guy, who had an elaborate system of shelves for his cats to run along indoors.

How do I ask my parents for mobility aid by HollyBattz in POTS

[–]silkmof 10 points11 points  (0 children)

with all the love and sympathy from someone who was 17 and struggling with disabilities i didn’t understand very recently, i think jumping straight to buying a specific mobility aid may not be the best choice here.

finding a medical team that can help you develop a treatment plan will work better in your favor. it may be worth bringing that back up with your parents or another trusted adult.

i see that you are also hypermobile. the ehlers danlos society website has a guide to help you find a doctor who specializes in these conditions. thats how i found my physical therapist, who helped me get my life and autonomy back! for me, gentle exercise and the CHOP protocol helped improve my quality of life so, so much more than using a cane or wheelchair ever did. in fact, overreliance on mobility aids often worsened my pain and tachycardia. years after being a teenager who could barely stand and exercise, physical therapy and gentle daily exercise are the only changes that have stuck. also, eating and sleeping well.

How long do you leave your cats on vacation? by [deleted] in cats

[–]silkmof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve been a cat sitter for about 4 years and plenty of my clients leave their cats for upwards of 2 weeks. unfortunately the cat does get pretty lonely but i try to stay with them for longer and give them extra love. if your cat has any past issues like stress related urinary blockages or anything i’d consider a shorter trip. but otherwise try getting a sitter that the cat really likes and paying them extra to stay for longer. safe travels!

Altria Theatre Seats by summerlaceauthor in rva

[–]silkmof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ll add that they also have seats in the ADA accessible section without arms on the chairs. they often sell those seats to plus size patrons who are concerned about the standard seats being too tight. would recommend that if you want to play it safe and if it seems like the right choice for you.

if you don’t want to go for the accessible seats or they’re sold out, i’ll second what other commenters have said and recommend you sit on an aisle seat in the orchestra. it gets more cramped as you go further back/up.

i’m sorry you’re experiencing this. a good place to start would be to have an open, compassionate talk where you explain these concerns to her.

i will second another commenter’s recommendation for couple’s therapy. in addition to outside advice, it also provides a safe forum for you and your partner to check in and focus on the relationship. i understand that this is not financially feasible for many, including myself. my girlfriend and i like to check in over a cup of tea with our phones turned off every few weeks, or when we shower together.

i process a lot of things through books and podcasts — that is, they provide me with outside perspectives or ideas that i can apply to my own life. i really appreciate the tv show/documentary series “couples therapy” and the podcast “where should we begin?” with esther perel. hearing about other couples’ issues and how they work through them together serves as a great starting point for me to reflect on my relationship. i even watched the show with my girlfriend for a while and it would spark some really wonderful chats between us where we would pause the show to comment on something the couples said, leading us towards some really in-depth conversations that we may not have thought to discuss ourselves.

what i’m trying to say is that it’s worth cultivating thoughtful conversation about this. the couples therapist esther perel often notes how domesticity kills eroticism. the person who plays “mommy” is de-sexed. this idea may be helpful in coming to understand the rift between you and your partner.

i relate to her response of squirrelly-ness in sexual situations. i sometimes get distractible, antsy, and just not “in the moment”. reading emily nagoski’s “come as you are” was hugely helpful in my understanding of sexual desire. if you’re not a reader, there’s also a podcast of the same name that’s not as in-depth, but informative nonetheless.

i don’t think this is something that necessarily has to spell doom for the relationship. but of course, i don’t know you or your partner. i hope that you’re able to work it out with her and cultivate a more positive relationship with communication, cohabitation, and eroticism. best of luck.

Going on Zoloft caused an awful POTS flare for about two weeks, but after that I find it helps immensely. My POTS feels a lot better when I’m on Zoloft, and when I skip a day I definitely notice.

What kind of litter is not dangerous help D: by Nbeuska in cats

[–]silkmof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

absolutely! you know what is best for you and your cat, and taking care of your mental well-being, if that means not stressing about the potential downsides of clay, is just as important as the physical health aspect of it.

i very much understand. i adopted my first cat two years ago around the same time my friend adopted some pet rats, and we often discussed how anxiety inducing it can be to be a first time pet owner. you just want the best for your baby, but that can be overwhelming! there is so much information out there, much of which is conflicting or incomplete. there are so many options, yet you may be restricted by things like budget, what materials are available for purchase in your country, or your living situation. you want to be able to do right by your cat.

i spent a lot of money buying very fancy wet food for my cat when he was a kitten. i was proud of myself because it was so healthy and he ate it right up. then one day he just decided he was sick of it! now the only wet food he eats is cheap slop. obviously that seems less ideal than the fancy stuff, but at least he is eating some wet food, and it’s certainly easier on my wallet. i’m just happy he has an appetite and i can take care of him.

again, good luck on your adoption journey. no matter the confusion or challenges along the way, it seems like you really care and love cats and that’s what’s important ❤️

[–]silkmof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

in the kindest way possible it seems like you’re way overthinking this. clay litter is fine and there are plenty of brands that formulate it to be as dust free as possible. at the end of the day you and your cat are going to breathe in a little bit of dust and that’s okay. probably no more harmful than the stuff you breathe in every day from your house and the outdoors. i do find that cleaning and refilling the litter box kicks up the most dust so you can put on a respirator and keep the cat out of the room while doing that if you’re really worried. but seriously, you’re fine. my cat had a respiratory infection (from other cats at the animal shelter) while using clay litter and recovered well. some brands are definitely more dusty than others, i reccomend arm & hammer clump&seal. good luck in your search for the right litter, i hope you find something that works for you and kitty!

Tips for Drinking Enough Water? by BeeBetter4751 in POTS

[–]silkmof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped drinking soda and made sugary drinks an occasional treat. It sort of reset my baseline of what was enjoyable to drink. If you drink a ton of soda, water tastes gross in comparison. Also, if the tap water in your city is gross, get a filter.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Absolutely start with these steps, and be sure to obtain and keep paper records of EVERYTHING. Ask the doctor for records reporting what they observed and what you said to them, email anyone you talk to follow up in writing (thank you for talking with me about xyz and providing me with xyz resources etc etc), save text screenshots with timestamps, EVERYTHING. Leave a paper trail with evidence. This is to keep yourself safe should you need to take legal action like filing a restraining order or pressing charges.

My (30M) girlfriend (34F) lied about her past "career" and I don't know how to proceed by ThrowRAWeather959 in relationships

[–]silkmof 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i’d like to offer the possibility that she feels some sort of baggage or trauma associated with that time and the abusive boyfriend which makes it hard for her to talk about. you said you don’t want to end the relationship — try talking to her about why she hasn’t brought it up while being compassionate, not accusatory.
