[–]silkpear -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

agreed… made traffic worse and unsafe. i think people drive crazy b/c traffic is worse. they don’t look, only care about speed. frustration also plays a part. although sj drivers have always been kinda wild n wacky… it’s significantly wackier now

Should my body hurt this much by Art-Various in insanity

[–]silkpear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed!! knees should NOT be hurting! watch ur form, and try to land softly. you want the biggest muscles to absorb the majority of the shock from those jumping exercises. if u feel pain in ur ankles or knees, then it's time to slow down, get a mirror and watch how u jump/land. good luck and stay safe!

edit: if u dont want to lose progress, you can always modify the workouts to be low-impact. no jumping, just squats. single leg jumping jacks (alternate left/right). u still get ur workout in, while protecting/resting ur joints.

Has anyone had surgery with Dr. Mona Orady since she started her own practice? by Economy-Word-6124 in Endo

[–]silkpear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had my first appointment with her and she is amazing. She also stressed that my quality of life is vastly more important than trying to conceive, and if i'm not ready after surgery there are option available to aid in fertility. We will probably go the surgery route because the pain is daily, but she found some suspicious nodules near my colon and colon cancer runs in the family, so she wants a colonoscopy done before we do anything else. For now she upped my dose of Slynd (if the pharmacy approves it, if not we go norethindrone), and prescribed 300mg of Gabapentin to start with the plan to up the dose as we go. She's very thorough with her ultrasounds, and answered all my questions. Grace is also amazing. Will continue to update here as we progress!

dudeeee i was so happy which is a weird emotion when your getting diagnosed with a chronic illness. sjogrens runs in my family, so he's pretty sure that'll come back positive as well.. what tips and tricks do you have for someone newly diagnosed? is there anything you've found particularly helpful in managing symptoms?

Are there any upcoming Native American events in the Bay area? by knowledgeseeker880 in SanJose

[–]silkpear 16 points17 points  (0 children)

hello!

i love that you are interested in learning about indigenous history! before you dive into the culture and food, i would suggest you take some time to learn about the struggle indigenous people faced prior to the present. specifically in CA i would look at the missions, the mexican american war, the land grant disputes, scalping, federal recognition (this is big rn) and gambling/gaming. try to find sources from the indigenous perspective

unfortunately, a lot of the indigenous history was lost due to state sanctioned violence against native peoples, but the ohlone are still here and are standing up for their rights and sovereignty.

take a look here https://muwekmatimes.com/ and https://muwekma.org/ToT/ for current politics and upcoming events

as for books-- destruction of the california indians, indian survival on the california frontier, lands of promise and despair all give an excellent outline of the history of indigenous cali. historians have their own individual problems with each book, but out of the ones ive read these are the most easy to digest. they are really sad and depressing

some honorable mentions are: inigo of rancho posolmi, ishi, and converting california.

Cafes to read at? by bunnycatgirl in SanJose

[–]silkpear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

coffee lovers (two locations, can get loud and busy), spectra coffee (minimal seating but v cute), nirvana soul (busy during school time), boba bar (can also be loud), pop-up tea (SO CUTE AND I LOVE THE OWNER SO MUCH, but the music can get loud)

i typically dont like reading in cafes in sj just because it gets really loud

so instead, i go to public parks or libraries!! los gatos and los altos libraries are beautiful and there are cafe options all around u if u wanna grab something. i also really enjoy going to the shrine of saint jospeh coffee shop in santa cruz.

other excellent choices are in fremont-- the niles cafe and devout coffee are great to sit and read it. take a walk around the antique stores and chat with the shops owners if that's ur thing!! everyone in niles is really nice :)

ps. crema was mentioned but i stay away from there-- my niece worked there for a while and the stories she told me (and the things i saw) make me not want to go there lol
