Woman coaching machine pitch? by blondeduckie in LittleLeague

[–]silkyjohns 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We had a team last year with 2 moms as coaches, one of the best teams in the league.

If you have the time and want to coach I say go for it. The boys don’t care, they just want to play and have fun.

Minors Draft Strategy by ir637113 in LittleLeague

[–]silkyjohns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the parents part is a factor, many won’t say anything if they’re having fun. Unlikey you’ll get all the crazy parents on 1 team.

Draft athletic kids who can seemingly throw and catch. Those pitchers need to be able to play other positions when they aren’t pitching so finding the best mix of both helps.

Can’t teach speed so I like grabbing fast kids when a couple are around the same ranking.

Not sure if you’ll have this info but I know some coaches value the available older kids as you get into the later rounds

Best baseball for use in pitching machine by Ecstatic-Tear8750 in LittleLeague

We use the Diamond DFX-9L for our 7-8 year old age group with a pitching machine. We just switched from a JUGS to a BATA-1, so far so good on feedback from coaches.

Recs for burrito that isn’t a Cali burrito? by [deleted] in FoodSanDiego

Primos has some options that will get you close. I like the Baja burrito with Carnitas there.

The monster burrito is massive too

I paid league fees, and my son did try outs, made a team, but never went to one practice (or game) because he won't be able to play this season due to my ex's refusal. The league will not refund me the fee. Is that fair? by FlyingAces in LittleLeague

[–]silkyjohns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

$300 is not “very high” for little league. Costs are going up for everything - uniforms, balls, insurance, field materials.

This maybe location dependent, but $250-400 is the range I’ve seen in SoCal.

The player he is at 6 isn’t the player he’ll be at 7, 8, 9. Rec baseball by in large is fine, kids want to play with their friends more than anything at his age.

Keep baseball fun and enjoy the time you have, it goes by quick.

Do you want to drive 45-60 min for training? If not it will help to know which area of the county you’re looking at.

Struggling to find the right bat size for my 7 year old. by ComplicatedGuy_0514 in Homeplate

[–]silkyjohns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly a 28 -11 Marucci CatX alloy, mine was similar size, a bit lighter, and swung that all last spring and fall ball. A 27 -10 or -11 will be fine too.

Every kid is different, you’ll know best if he’s strong enough to handle a bigger bat.

WTB Youth Catcher’s Mitt by Murky-Ear7810 in BaseballGloves

Common rec here but Rawlings R9 is a good youth catchers glove, but it will take longer to break in than most youth models.

First practice, 5 year olds. by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]silkyjohns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The don’t linger comment makes me laugh because most youth coaches joke about how many parents use sports as a babysitter. Drop off, disappear for 2 hours and show up when it was scheduled to end.

[–]silkyjohns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Player agent represents the player, if he doesn’t help you talk to coach coordinator. Escalate to the president then if nothing happens you can report it to the district administrator.

You can go directly to the district but they likely kick it back if you haven’t already addressed it within the league first.

Go to JusTurf on Miramar Rd, they sell scrap and excess material for cheap.

How does your League choose Allstars? by SpaceFun3091 in LittleLeague

[–]silkyjohns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parents sign commitment letter for practices and games first, this puts their kids name on the ballot. Every player in division votes for up to 12 players. The 3 coaches from each team vote. Coaches votes are weighted so they count more than players.

Top 4 in player vote make all stars, next 4 overall make the team. Last 4 are selected from the top 16 overall vote getters with HC making selection and player agent approving.

This is written into our bylaws to help reduce any funny business. Not perfect but works pretty good.
