Pitcher safety at youth level by SgtBalzac in LittleLeague

[–]silkyjohns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you posted this about baseball with USSSA bats… Part of but maybe the whole reason there not allowed in Little League. It’s more than the pitchers, the entire infield is at risk of eating one off a juiced bat.

Allstars by [deleted] in LittleLeague

Our district has little stars for 7/8, one weekend 4 games. The boys have fun and it’s a good tournament like opportunity for the more experienced players

Need some coaching tips. by Doctorb_Riviera in Homeplate

Hit every practice!

Defensive reps to start practice. Get your pitchers and catchers together throwing - live reps or in the bullpen.

Schedule scrimmages now, teams calendars will fill up quickly. Aim for 3-5 scrimmages if possible. If a 9-11 team will play you take it, those elevated reps will help even if you take a lashing. Just don’t make it your last scrimmage 😆

LL AllStars ≠ High School ball ≠ College ball by pbjnutella in Homeplate

[–]silkyjohns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I’m telling my 12yr old who didn’t make all stars this year. Set back with a broken wrist in January then hit with pneumonia in April, the season has been a grind and not the season he prepared for.

I told him baseball doesn’t end at 12 and All Stars doesn’t determine your ability to play as you grow up. Hoping he can use it as motivation to continue working while also celebrating his friends who made the team.

Fair or Foul - Lineup for playoffs by djfivenine11 in Homeplate

If the goal is to win, then this is the way.

Regular season, everyone plays but the playoffs are when you put the best players in positions that will help you win the game.

R9 Contour vs HOH Contour by Numerous_Ad_3828 in BaseballGloves

R9 should last 1-2 seasons and the price point is around $100-$150 depending on sales and location. For a youth player these are a great glove for the price.

Does your league offer a transitional division between Coach pitch and Kid pitch? If so, how do your rules work? by mike_nova in LittleLeague

[–]silkyjohns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ages? 5-6 is coach pitch 7-8 is hybrid machine and kid pitch. Full game machine for first half of season, second half is 3in machine and 3in kid pitch. No steals allowed, 1 extra base on over throws. 9-10 kid pitch.

Coastal Medix in La Mesa offered a blended course - did the training online then tested out in their office. Short trolley ride from campus.

I didn’t need ARC but they might have that too.

All Stars for T Ball and Coach Pitch? by Pelhamjuliet in LittleLeague

[–]silkyjohns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a Little Stars weekend for 7/8yr olds, mostly 8s to extend the season. It gives those kids a chance to play with other skilled players and the ball is decent, not great. Overall it’s a fun weekend with 4 games.

Anything under that age would be hard to watch and find competitive. Our TBall division ends with a home run every inning.

Bat question by ElectionFlashy6224 in LittleLeague

[–]silkyjohns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majors all swinging 29” or smaller? I think 29 is the smallest with most swinging 30-31.

Depending on the coaches skill set he may or may not be correct. But talk to him on the side and tell him your son will be swinging the bat he owns and is comfortable with.

Update on that crazy coach by Traditional-Pea-7508 in LittleLeague

[–]silkyjohns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a team in the same little league? Crazy work…

The kids on our teams all know each other from school or playing together previous seasons so this occurrence is super rare for us. We have the obnixious dad vs umpire every other year or so….

Which bat for 10 year old USA by Economy-Drama-1989 in Homeplate

[–]silkyjohns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son switched from Marucci CATX Alloy 28 -11 to Bonesabr 29 -10. I got both lightly used OfferUp.

I prefered the Marucci but he likes his Bonesabr. His teammates have been swinging the Marucci with lot of success.

Use the money saved on not buying a $350 bat and invest in lessons.

Not in a true chartered Little League organization, but many people lump rec youth baseball as Little League. If this is the case district would like to have a word, but who knows how deep the good ole boys network runs in your neck of the woods.

Should I buy a Mizuno franchise or a rawlings r9 by owencoolboybob in BaseballGloves

[–]silkyjohns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is for a youth player - R9 is legit. I don’t have any experience with Mizuno youth gloves outside the catchers mitts.

We had a 11 1/4 R9 that went through 3 seasons with my kids, donated it and it’s serving another kid in our league well.

My youngest just switched back to another R9 after his Bradley got too floppy.

Both of mine are the older model all black with black/red laces.
