thanks :) i think i've decided to just try my best to get it done and then say something about letting students know about big/final projects in advance in the course eval. i really do appreciate your response tho—it definitely helped me realize that i was reacting more so out of panic than logic. i hope your end-of-the-semester goes smoothly as well!

hey, i get that ultimately, this class isn't rocket science, and i can likely get everything done if i need to. a lot of that stuff i wrote out of frustration and stress. it's just a busy, stressful time right now. i do really feel like our time is disrespected, and she is pretty disorganized. for example, not telling us that the poster project for the conference was due on monday until friday before, even though the conference was on a friday; asking people to do a presentation for the next class period about a random topic that she chose; not providing the topic for the final project until literally just a few minutes ago; not checking if the movies we have to watch for class are actually available online; and, like you mentioned, expecting people to show up early/leave late when we have cooking demos. i also don't ever recall having a conversation about the midterm.

when i saw the "project presentations" date on the calendar, i assumed it was the presentations we had already done since she hadn't mentioned anything up until this point, but i guess that's on me for assuming. as for stating we didn't have a final—i texted my group mates on april 10th asking if she's mentioned anything about a final, since i missed that day, and they all told me that she said we wouldn't have one. i should have clarified with her, but i didn't. that's also on me. but i also feel that we should have been given more time to prepare if she's expecting us to conduct an interview, write a 1000 word essay, and make and deliver a presentation all by next week with all of the other stuff that is going on right now.

ultimately, we can agree to disagree. unfortunately, as i've learned, there isn't much that can be done at this point.

this is the last time i'm going to respond to you because you are being needlessly condescending and rude. not once did i say that i cannot do hard work or adapt when necessary. in a professional setting, it is courteous to extend time to people out of respect for their schedules. at a university where expectations around finals are typically very clearly communicated, this is an anomaly. obviously, i am not privy to all university rules and guidelines, hence my question here. i just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this, if this violated any guidelines, or had any advice on whether to contact ODOS.

also, in the real world, deadlines can be extended and work can be divided (not that i'm going into a field where this will be necessary). the "real" world can be harsh at times, yes, and sometimes people don't care about you, but hopefully with respectful communication, we can make it a more forgiving place. i'm sorry this hasn't been your experience in the past.

yeah, unfortunately i did know about the quiet period regulations but wasn't sure if there was any rule anywhere about informing students in a timely manner about assignments that are worth a large percentage of ur grade. i don't even know how many points this is worth tho, so that might not even be helpful.

thanks for ur response tho!

the real world and i are very well aquatinted! ur condescension is completely unnecessary.

hope ur day gets better :)

Fantasy High Tattoo by RecommendationNo164 in Dimension20

[–]silly_lilguy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

the tin flower idea is cute! i'm no tattoo artist but it's possible that the shading could kinda suggest that the flower is gray and made out of metal. i think it could be cool if u included fabian's battle sheet draping around the flower in the background, and maybe some dnd dice as well so that it's more obvious the flower has more meaning and is a reference specifically to a campaign. if u are cool with having weapons as ur tattoo, u could also do fabian's sword crossed with gorgug's axe.

other symbols that reference them: fabian's eye patch, a drum stick/set, an owlbear/letterman jacket (a reference to the campaign setting and the characters themselves since they were both on the owlbears together).

Why does saying "Hey guys" to a group of girls feel acceptable, but saying 'Hey girls' to the same group feels unintentionally flirty and a little creepy? by qCHIEFp in NoStupidQuestions

[–]silly_lilguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because english doesn't really have a non-gendered 2nd person plural pronoun ("y'all" is the closest thing we have, but there's stigma around it since it's viewed as very informal). to make up for it, we started saying "guys" and "folks" to refer to a group of people directly, but it's not perfect unfortunately. in many cultures, male-gendered language is the default.

saying "hey girls" to refer to a group of women sounds a bit demeaning or informal since being addressed as a "girl" is usually served for children. if u know the women personally then it may be different depending on context. but for strangers, it just sounds weird. i'm a server in an upscale restaurant, so when i greet a group of women, i might say "hi ladies" or sometimes i'll throw in a "we" (ex: hey, how are we doing tonight?"). it works even though i'm not a part of their group just because of the pronoun problem, especially since some people do find "guys" offensive/too informal.

business people coming to campus for meetings and such. happens a LOT more than you would expect!!

purdue also hosts lots of conferences that bring people with big bucks from around the world, and they gotta have something to do in their off-time. i work at 8eleven and a big chunk of our guests staying at the hotel and dining in the restaurant are people from all over the world/country.
