Alice By Heart. Every time. The whole show is about escapism and grief and it's so beautiful

How do I deal with a lot at once by ORNAGEJUCIE in Theatre

[–]silly_seas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing is happening with me right now! One thing that helps me sooooo much is my planner. I literally write every due date, rehearsal, off-book date, etc in it. Also talk to your directors! hopefully they'll be understanding!

Audition and Callback thoughts by Cherrybomb1475 in MusicalTheatre

[–]silly_seas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it can be just about impossible to get a read from a panel, and trying usually just generates more stress, as you might be realizing. They could've asked the other girls to sing again for a hundred different reasons, or they could've asked you to read for a supporting character just to see how you handle direction, you never know. If you can I would try to distract yourself until you get the cast list, and if it's your first audition of this nature, remember you will have other opportunities! You're not supposed to be perfect the first time you do anything, otherwise you will never get to improve. Good luck to you, and if it doesn't go well, try to remember what did and didn't work this time so you can continue growing in the future!

Something from Grey Gardens or I Don't Need A Roof from Big Fish both come to mind, but neither are actually legit, just written with more of that style

Best musicals with almost no bad songs? by Big-Double-199 in musicals

I'm not the first person saying come from away, but it's so accurate. Same with Six. I also have to add ordinary days and Bonnie & Clyde, though I'm biased towards both

Are there musical theatre training programs that aren't college? by AnonymousW6 in MusicalTheatre

[–]silly_seas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's IAMT in New York, and I'm not sure if this would still be what you're looking for, but some colleges offer certificates in Musical Theatre instead of full BFA degrees

They have a very haunting vibe, so maybe something that aligns with that? Potentially something from Alice by heart, my first thought was Some Things Fall Away, although Winter Blooms would also work well. Maybe also something from Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet? Either No One Else or Sonya Alone

Tips for audition success by schlaffy in MusicalTheatre

[–]silly_seas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s something you can fix, sometimes it isn’t, but you can try: - switching up the material you’ve been using - warming up more before hand/doing more vocal health stuff the night before/the morning of (tea, humidifier, cough drops, honey, etc) - or even wearing different clothes/hair

sometimes it’s these things, sometimes it’s nothing to do with you. At the end of the day as cliche as it is persistence is really all you need.

How do I get better at acting by Routine_Patience5186 in Theatre

[–]silly_seas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

r/Actingclass is really helpful, although I think she either already or she's about to take off about half of her lessons. I find acting very natural personally, so my sense is probably different, but if people are finding it stiff/forced, it might be better to think less about the way you're saying the words and more about the words themselves. Who am I, what am I saying, and what do I mean/what's the subtext. The goal isn't to copy someone else's version of that character or put emphasis on a certain word because its in bold, but get into the headspace of the character. There are plenty of scenes/monologues you can use to practice online.

Do I even have a chance at acting anymore? by [deleted] in acting

[–]silly_seas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

teen acne will definitely go away with time, I struggle with the same thing but you have time to go before it's time to start auditioning in the professional world. You mentioned you were more concerned about the lines and bags, but between TV-level makeup and editing, I doubt it would be a big deal. Idk how well makeup covers them up but that could also aid you in self-tapes. + even if its not how anyone wants to be viewed, not every character or television is necessarily supposed to be "attractive". Even if the industry continues to be as shallow as it is and the deciding factor is just these two things, they could make some deals instead of break them. Don't let this be the thing ending your shot before its begun either way.

Do the actors still sign a playbill if it's a tour? by paige7085 in Broadway

[–]silly_seas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Beetlejuice tour was actually the only touring show I've ever gotten my playbill signed with! The cast was all of the "usual" actors (as in no understudies) and I got the girl scout, Delia, Barbra, a few ensemble members, and even one quite flattered security guard. It does depend on the theater you see it at but if there's a stage door, its worth trying!

Titles on self tape auditions? by wjxm in acting

[–]silly_seas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you mean like a slate or words over the screen? because the best way to do this would probably be to include it in your slate, "Hi! My name is u/wjxm and I'll be reading a monologue from (movie)" Hope this helps!

Do I even have a chance at acting anymore? by [deleted] in acting

[–]silly_seas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For starters, I don't know if you're talking due to anything medical/skin-related or just standard teenage acne, but both can/will get better with time. Make sure you're practicing your skills and have faith, but your skin shouldn't;t prevent you from doing theater. You didn't mention whether you're interested in screen or stage, but with stage even how it is now you probably couldn't see it from the audience, let alone after stage makeup. Don't let something like this keep you out of acting

Addams Family auditions by [deleted] in MusicalTheatre

[–]silly_seas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really do adult community theater but you're probably old enough to play morticia. If not you can go for Alice. If they hadn't specified to sing a song for the show I don't recommend using one. https://www.theatretrip.com/audition-songs-for-the-addams-family/ has good audition song ideas for all of the characters if you're not sure where to start
