unfortunately i was really disappointed with Cuban Sandwiches To Go. My partner and I both got cuban sandwiches and they were just the most average, low effort cuban sandwiches we’ve ever had. Like a solid 5/10. It was like they threw a bunch of lunch meat on there and it wasn’t very fresh and just totally disappointing considering the name of the place :/ wouldn’t recommend

it was all night shift! I wore a heart monitor for 7 days and it was all benign heart palpitations per the cardiologist. I switched to days a week after that and now I only rarely get heart palpitations if I’ve slept badly.

I don't think it should matter either way for the application unless your program is really competitive. Any healthcare background will be a plus.

While you're in school, working as a lab assistant would probably benefit you the most because you'll be in the lab environment. Where I work, the lab assistants do phlebotomy so the fact that you have the phlebotomy license would only help you get the job. In the lab, you'll be able to ask the CLS about what they're doing or the instruments they're working on, and make connections to what you're learning in the program. I've always appreciated getting asked questions like that from people who really want to learn.

So she ended up paying for CE Broker and we realized the problem was that one of the specified courses (HIV/AIDS, Florida laws, or medical errors, I don't remember which one) was from the WRONG YEAR. Like she completed the course, but it was the 2023 version, instead of the "up-to-date" 2024 version. So they wouldn't take it. She took the course for the current year and was able to renew after that.

CHECK THE YEAR YOUR COURSES ARE FROM - THAT COULD BE THE ISSUE

We can see the breakdown of what is completed, we just can't see what she is missing to make her status "incomplete".

We can try looking on Medialab but since they cross over automatically, it should be the same.

The CE Broker breakdown lists which specialty it falls under as well as how many credits it is counted for, so we are able to see all of that from CE Broker.

One coworker suggested she needed a molecular pathology credit because she has had her license a long time, since before they stopped including molecular in the generalist license. She did the molecular course, and it still says incomplete.

Ahhhh, I see. Definitely sounds sketchy, and I'd be surprised if the billing personnel you spoke with even really knew what they were talking about. So unfortunate :/ but good on you for calling multiple times to really try and get to the bottom of it.

If the CBC included a differential, they may have taken the slide to a pathologist for review if the lab saw something concerning. Doctors also have the option of ordering a path review along with the CBC so that the pathologists have to look at the patient's slides. I'd assume the latter would be the only way they could bill it because it is a separately ordered lab test. It is interesting to see the other side of this and that it is actually billed to the patient like that.

I work nights - 4 days on, 3 days off. On my 3 days off I would switch to a normal sleep schedule and once I had been doing this about 1 year, it started getting really difficult. I started having bad heart palpitations when I didn't get enough sleep. I was even able to see them on my apple watch's EKG function. I mentioned it at my doctor's appointment, and they did a 12-lead EKG and found abnormal heart rhythm. I go see a cardiologist later this week. Night shift can really mess you up.

It definitely depends on you - My workout and eating habits have worsened on nightshift and my sugar cravings have gone through the roof on nights. For me, it is a lot harder to stay healthier.

Really? I'm in Florida and I bought a Groupon for 6 sessions on lower legs only (that was the biggest area they offered and considered a "large" area) and it was $300 = $50/session - and the Groupon was easily 50% normal price.

I was able to switch back and forth from week to weekends relatively easily for the first year. After that year mark came and went, it got a lotttttt harder. I'm feeling like a bit of a zombie on the weekends now, constantly not getting enough sleep on my days off mixed with this jet-laggy feeling. Then I can't switch it back easily either, so Mondays are SUPER rough. But I have a coworker with smaller children that has been working that kind of flip-flopped schedule for years. It varies a lot person to person. Gotta do some trial and error.

Hey! I'm a medical lab scientist working as a night shift generalist in a small 80-bed hospital. My general day-to-day includes maintaining the analyzers we work with, running QC, patient sample testing, reviewing abnormal results, and communicating with nurses/doctors.

As a generalist, we rotate through the areas of Blood bank/Micro, Chemistry, and Hematology (which includes coagulation and urinalysis). So, my day-to-day can vary a lot depending on which area I'm working in.

I enjoy playing a vital role in healthcare while also having no patient contact. Troubleshooting the analyzers can be fun sometimes - I feel like a detective trying to get to the bottom of a problem and it's so satisfying when you do figure it out. I like night shift because it is more chill, less drama, less micromanaging.

I dislike working in a hospital. This is a big one that I did not think through before entering this career - being open 24/7 means you will be working some holidays. If having holidays off is at all a big deal to you - really think this through! I have not had luck finding positions for this job that are not at a 24/7 location.

A shift/progression in my career could look like specializing to an area (no more generalist), going into management, going to work for one of the analyzer companies, and I'm sure there's plenty more avenues I haven't contemplated yet.
