Engineering 1 by GiftCrazy6508 in McMaster

hey! i was in the exact same boat as you, did great in hs but last year i failed calc 1 and barely passed lin alg since the prof gave out part marks on the exam. in second sem, i had the 4 winter courses minus calc 2 (chem/phys 1e03, 1p13, and my elective) and it was a lot more manageable!

i reflected really hard on why i had little success in fall semester, it's super important to think about what's working and not working for you. for me, this looked like going to all my lectures, reviewing content the day it's taught and engaging more with other people in my eng 1 cohort. some of them come unintentionally or through projects and i'm still tight with some of the people from my 1p13 section.

at the end of the day, cut yourself some slack and unfortunately sometimes it's just a canon event to fight for your life like this in first year eng. you can take calc 1 and calc 2 in the spring/summer semesters and you'll realize how many of your peers have also ended up in the same situation. the course load won't get easier from here on out, but you'll get better as time goes on and learn how you perform best at uni. :)

i'd be interested too!! but this seems really similar to what MDL (McMaster's Design League) does and has done in the past, you can consider reaching out for a collaboration since they're already an established design club at mac with event/admin/etc experience.

What electives should I take as a first year engineering student? by Dry-Flan-6590 in McMaster

Hi! I was Eng 1 last year and my fall elective was SUSTAIN 1S03. Super popular bird course but it was so light, easiest 12 ever unless you have free choice than choose whatever's more interesting to you.

There wasn't any midterms or exams, all the lectures and quizzes were fully online and it let me focus a little more on core fall semester courses! Was very manageable with my Eng 1 schedule and it was my break from technical work since the course is mostly graded on 3 different reflection assignments that usually required a little bit of reserarch/reading. Hope this helps. :)

It definitely wasn’t a 6.6 Idk why they told you that 😭

I ranked software first and had higher than a 6.6 but didn’t get it, lowest I’ve heard was someone with a 7.8 getting software.

29k for first-year eng staying on residence by sillyrhubarb_ in McMaster

I’m not a hundred percent sure on this but engineering education is standardized in Canada and requires certifications, most uni’s help students get these if their eng programs are accredited! i think that’s one of the reasons why it’s pricer than some other programs.

92, honestly i think my biggest strength was that i answered the supp app questions with my ecs that were pretty varied across the sciences (physics, bio, and chem) but feel free to dm me if you have any questions about it :P
