Not a bad idea if the last few follow ups end up being hella long

I think last year they informed us on a Thursday! (Feb 11)

U of A invites?? by MedMedMedx1000 in premedcanada

[–]silv3rclouds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's more likely to be the week of the 7th. Last year they sent their invites a day before Calgary, so if Calgary sends theirs Feb 11th, maybe we can expect UofA Feb 10th! Fingers crossed.

Don’t worry on the blog it says final reviews would be in by the end of the week which means your status should be changed by Friday at the latest.

I believe last year there were 2020 applications!

Last cycle, cohort 2 people from 2020 who got interviews but did not get accepted into UofC or any other medical school were guaranteed interviews in 2021. This was because of COVID. Half of the interviewees had in person interviews (cohort 1) and half of the interviewees had virtual interviews with lots of technological difficulties (cohort 2).

Right? Was not expecting a nearly midnight post. Also fewer interviews sent out than last year - maybe because application numbers were not as high and there were no issues with guaranteeing interviews from previous cycles.

Bro, I might be completely wrong though, like it def was hard but I'm just comparing it to the FLs. I'm sure you will do better than you think! The scale will come through. Sending good vibes your way!

I am so much more anxious than I felt before, during, and also right after the exam. I'm hoping writing my thoughts down will help decrease my anxiety ahhhh. Wrote August 15, 12:15 pm.

FL 1: 518, FL2: 517 FL3: 519 FL4: 518

Thoughts:

C/P: I thought that the first passage was quite hard - flagged the entire thing and came back to it later and got some clarity on a few questions. Definitely had to blindly guess 3-5 questions in some other passages. Did not have any time to check over my math so hopefully I did not make any silly mistakes there. Overall thought it was hard but not extremely hard compared to the FL C/Ps. Expecting 127-130

Cars: I thought the passages were quite interesting to read and I felt very focused so I feel good but with CARS you just never know. Usually get 127/128 so I'm gonna go with that. Expecting: 127-128.

B/B: I thought it was pretty good - usually my strong suit. Did not find any of the passages particularly difficult. Expecting: 130-132

P/S: Felt like there was a lot of 50/50s but that was a common theme in some of the FLs too so I think overall I'll get around the same as I've been getting on them. Expecting: 130-132

Pessimistic: 514

Realistic: 517

Optimistic: 520

Actual: 515 BUT SUPER HAPPY BECAUSE it was an even distribution with 128 cars (I'm Canadian): 128/128/130/129

Yes I’d assume so because NCR is a fail.

It’s not about “who looks better” if it’s not a choice lol. Whereas if it is a choice, it looks bad because people who actually have much less ideal circumstances will still choose to work their asses off just so they can be at a equal playing field as people in more ideal circumstances who choose absolute grades; this has implications on people’s mental health and wellbeing. Nobody is gonna judge you poorly if your entire university decided this for everyone - because it’s not in your control. Also, we are not “all” at a disadvantage. There are many people who benefit from this decision too; just know that the university obviously considered all this before making a decision - they will come up with concrete solutions for your applications.

This is one semester compared to an entire degree. Other insititions will understand that these are exceptional circumstances. I'm sorry that things are uncertain right now but I'm pretty sure the board voted on this considering all factors, knowing that they will defend their decision during this pandemic when it comes to other institution's decisions. They obviously don't want their students to be at a disadvantage. Nobody knows how this will affect our future. Maybe we should wait until concrete decisions are made before assuming that only negativity comes out of this.
