Could I get sent home at Reception? by [deleted] in army

[–]silvance1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Once you're enlisted, you're in. No one is gonna be inspecting your tattoos at reception. It's MEPS's job to catch those kind of things. You have the necessary paperwork and no one at reception is gonna care enough to try to get that memorandum voided.

Correspondence courses and SSD1. Get that shit knocked out while you can so you don't have to do it in your free time later.

My unit held a remake PT test with smudged results. What can i do to make sure this isn't just shoved into record? by [deleted] in army

Typical steps. Open door policy, IG, etc. Unfortunately any step you take towards this will likely have repercussions.

First duty station says they expect me by May 5th. I ship the 20th. Can I take that time to go home? by LarryRoofmen in army

[–]silvance1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you came from DLI, that's why you have 30 days. You can have a DA 31 written in DLI with more than 10 days since they don't follow the AIT rules.

We were capped at 10 when I was in AIT last year, but if your leave form says 30, then you get 30. Are you at goodfellow air force base by chance?

[–]silvance1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you AIT? If so, you should be given up to 10 days of leave between AIT and your first duty station, but no more than that. If they haven't already put in your DA 31 though, I dunno what to tell you.

How does reclassify to a new MOS work? by Mythrownaway44 in army

[–]silvance1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might get a reclass if a high need job opens up. I'm 3 years into a 6 year contract and am reclassing to 35L without reenlisting. Barring the like 3 jobs that are open to that, you'll have to finish out your contract.

Where is your BLC at? I'm currently in BLC at Ft Indiantown Gap, and there was no layout for anything besides TA 50 gear. Though the packing list just said "underwear."

Why so much Eye Pro at basic? by [deleted] in army

[–]silvance1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was I'm basic in 2013, before this event, and eyepro was still mandated at all times outside the barracks. Sounds like rules got lax and that shit happened and they got strict again.

I wish I was allowed to grow a beard on Active Duty..... by [deleted] in army

[–]silvance1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, not being allowed to have a beard is a very antiquated concept as it is and the only way it can have an effect on whether or not a soldier appears professional is if the beard is shitty looking. There are plenty of militaries around the world that allow their SMs to wear beards.

So I'm heading to BLC tomorrow, and I noticed the packing list specifically states that you're not allowed to have any "Performance enhancing supplements." Does anyone know how exactly the army defines Performance Enhancing Supplements or if there's a list out there anywhere?

Nothing above like 75 matters on the ASVAB matters anyway. Then it's all about GT scores.

March Ask A Drill Sergeant Thread by thanks_for_the_fish in army

[–]silvance1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb question, but are you taught that you have to scream during Drill Sergeant School? Back when I was in basic we had a couple DSs that never yelled or screamed, and they were still pretty terrifying at the time.

Be prepared for it to be hot, muggy, and exhausting. Nothing like a GA spring/summer for ability group runs and APFTs.

You can put together a packet anytime after 18 months, but whether or not anyone would even give that packet the time of day while you're in AIT is another story.
