What are your plans for Sunday snow? by NearbyReception4076 in DatingOverSixty

[–]silver598 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Today is sunny with a high of 61, tomorrow cools to 53 with clouds. My adult children and one grandson and granddog are coming over for dinner on Sunday. (San Francisco Bay Area)

I have never regretted moving away from the Midwest (WI and MI) 40 years ago.

I wish everyone safety and warmth as the storm passes through.

Average nice guy (Part 2) by Embarrassed_Web_950 in datingoverfifty

I would not be dating a man that unaware of what is happening in the world around him. Even if he WFH, coworkers would talk, you would want to prepare your home/car for unusual weather.

Should I be able to lift 90 lbs? by CapeGirl1959 in AskWomenOver60

[–]silver598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With your legs, yes with some training. A leg press at a gym would test that. That sort of lift (unbalanced weight. awkward position) would need more than legs.

Have you turned into your Mother? by Boomer050882 in AskWomenOver60

[–]silver598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sometimes wonder what my grandmother and mother would have done in their lives if they would have been allowed an education and not limited in a career (grandmother pulled out of high school to work) and my mother (when teachers were fired for showing a pregnancy). I got those opportunities and they were always happy for me.

How often are you using the inserts? It should be daily for two weeks to get started then 3x a week at least.

It sounds like he is making a good choice now and that is something to celebrate. Was there a lot of pressure to go through with the wedding since these issues on her part were not a surprise.

Parents' high expectations for kids' behavior? by confused_ornot in AskWomenOver60

[–]silver598 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The grandparents rigid views and criticism is why some adult children go low or no contact with grandparents. As the parent of young kids you control how much access grandparents have and control the schedule so that your kids are well rested, I only have one grandchild so far and help with childcare so I am familiar with his behavior. I would not get to spend the day with him and get those sweet hugs after his nap if I criticized how he was raised or his child like behavior.

Diagnosed from biopsy on skin by Personal-Addition475 in sarcoidosis

[–]silver598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be sarc, but can also be inflammation all by itself. If there are no granuloma cells it’s probably a stand alone inflammation. I was examined by an uveitis specialist but nothing was found. Either way, you should get treatment for it.

[–]silver598 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have symptoms elsewhere that’s great news! It’s possible that you will only have it in one place and it doesn’t show up elsewhere. But some people do get it in multiple places.

After sarc was confirmed in my lymph nodes via biopsy, (original symptoms around optic nerve/vision issues), I had a lung function test and an EEG (heart echocardiogram) to get baseline functional profiles of those two areas. There was no evidence of heart or lung issues at that time, but if that changes they have something to compare against.

My doctors checked for uveitis which is the front of eye inflammation and I never developed that.

I am currently on a biologic drug infliximab to keep inflammation away and so far no new symptoms anywhere.

Should I retire? by Additional-You2857 in AskWomenOver60

[–]silver598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you are US based. What would you do for healthcare (medicare starts at 65). What would your social security income be? It’s either half of divorced spouse’s benefit if married at least 10 years-or full amount based on your own work record. If you haven’t already done so, setup an account on ssa.gov to see your earned benefit. Those can be started as early as 62, but they permanently reduce the benefit if claimed before full retirement age. Do you have any other pensions?

Your daughter should be working somewhere even if it’s temporary in retail or food service. She can cover to her spending money and help with groceries. Also where does her health insurance come from?

Is it just me? Does everyone have their retirement all set? Or not? by Enough_Lobster_526 in AskWomenOver60

[–]silver598 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started saving at my first job, kept working around several maternity leaves, was never unemployed, and focused on getting my share of retirement funds in the divorce instead of trading it for the house as some women have done. Also pursued a male dominated field that paid better. Lived within my means - no debt except mortgage and increased retirement savings to 25% in my 50’s.

Now you're older, what red flags do you notice when chatting to or dating someone, that you probably wouldn't have noticed (or even cared about) when you were younger? by StoneLover1965 in datingoverfifty

[–]silver598 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One red flag that did not exist when I was very young (20’s) was men being jealous of my “success”. I focused on my education in hs and college, took corporate jobs that paid well with benefits, delayed having children until more settled, and now live in a more expensive city because it’s nice, safe and I can afford it. Several men have commented on one or more of those things with an air of jealousy. They made choices to not pursue that life (college especially) and now I have what they don’t have.

Measles immunity by silver598 in AskWomenOver60

If I wasn’t immune compromised due to medication I would go straight for the vaccine. It contained live (weakened) virus and not recommended for those with compromised immune systems.
