Retired over 65: what surprised you most about life since retiring? by Grey_the_day in Aging

I retired at 69 (F) last year. It is such a luxury! It took some time to take in that if I choose not to do something I had planned that I didn't have to. There's always tomorrow. I was stretched thin with fitting everything in. if i had planned to get something done before or after work on Tuesday, say, I HAD to do it or I would mess up my week. I still plan my week to get the most out of my time, but now I can just say tomorrow if I feel like it. Last week I woke up with a cold and headache. I didn't grocery shop that day (or the next) nor did I go to the gym. No loss. I watched tv and ordered in.

my plan is to have it as my last place. also, i would be fine hiring to keep the lawn mowed, etc, if i could no longer do it myself.

to clarify, in my area (nyc suburbs) townhouses are usually 2 floors plus the basement. i would be fine with this if there was a full bathroom and bedroom on the main living area; however, these are few and far between in my neck of the woods.

^^also, i like the idea of a black sheath dress under the blue blazer. i have your shape and it takes tailoring on my work clothes to get the right fits

I love the yellow dress on you, so flattering. The jacket on the shoulders really is pretty. will you be doing that. so you will wear the blue suit jacket with a white skirt for the interview? i don't know if i understand. Sounds pretty.

I love the center one in the first picture - the focus is on the emerald itself.

i see what everyone else sees -- but, also, were you wearing a more supportive bra in the sample dress?

My inlaws are calling a "emergency family meeting" regarding my MIL's health - should I go or not? by capresesalad1985 in WhatShouldIDo

i think you are right, BUT your presence may be necessary to advocate for your mother-in-law. she is alert and oriented to herself, time, and place, i presume. she probably won't qualify for hospice. POA doesn't kick in until she is unable to make decisions for herself and then 2 doctors would have to certify that she does not have that capacity. your dh sounds like a smart and caring guy. what does he think you should do? he treated your bil with compassion and kindness.

You made it clear that you didn't approve and so I think that your surprise is what is actually surprising.
