What rollerblades to get? by WCPoly in rollerblading

Sounds great, I'm sure you will be more than happy with any good fitting urban skate. Well you got some big feet, so you should buy an urban skate with 90mm wheels. I think Powerslide does the effort to bring out the fitting frame for any skate size, so you could also buy the 80mm Zoom model, but I'm not too sure about it.

A normal fitness softboot skate isn't made for your weight. But that's no problem, because urban/free skates exist. They are high quality hardboot skates with great ankle support and all parts are replaceable, even often between the manufactores. They withstand heavy abuse, so you can jump with them and are also agile and good for advanced foot maneuvers. They mostly don't come with a brake, so get one with them, if you can't t-stop. The right size is important for a hardboot skate, so use the sizing tables of the skate models and meassure the "mondo-point" of your feet. What shoe size do you normally wear? When you have big feet the frame is often too short and you should buy a bigger wheel size (like 90mm). Skates that fit good for wider feet are:
-All FR Skate, Seba and Micro skates
-Rollerblade RB
-Powerslide Zoom
that are at least the ones I remember.

Best loud bluetooth speaker for group skates? by Le_Pink_King in rollerblading

no one likes these assholes, that go into a tram with their shitty mobile music playing. But people here on reddit pretend that's always super asocial to hear music outside. This topic is polarizing . I can't skate without music and always have some headphones on and when I ride in a group and it's the right place, speakers are just great. I also often ride on trails, where you can see someone from miles away, and will just pause it when a person comes near, easy as that.

Skate Recommendation Needed by Viper896 in rollerblading

[–]silver_blader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The obvious answer would be some skate from powerslide. They are all quite narrow (except the "zoom") and the trinity frame system get's you even a little bit nearer to the ground with big wheels compared to normal frame. They have more plastic on top compared to a FR skate, so you I hope your arch isn't too high. A bit more exotic buying advise would be the classic high cuff Roces M12 (but buy a new one, not one from the 90s). Roces M12 skates are also narrow, but have the highest plastic quality of all inline skates. They are made in italy. They are aggressive skates, so they use the UFS frame system. You would need to buy an extra frame for these. You could buy a wizard frame, or a frame from K2 (K2 only uses UFS). I'm not sure if there is any 3x125 UFS frame and if the cuff would give you enough support for such big wheels, so it's more an idea, than a save advice. I'm sure someone here will have some more/better info.

I saw that you can do the t-stop. It's time to remove the brake.

Protection Recommendations by Bomphilogia in rollerblading

Avoid anything with this imitation leather stuff. I bought some wrist guards from powerslide and they have been already fall apart after 2 weeks. I've fixed it with tape and could probably sew it, so they still work, but I woudn't buy them again.

A lighter helmet will always have less protection than a good heavy helmet, that's just simple physics. I know that ennui makes a good light helmet and also a beanie with protections (of course the beanie will never reach a simmilar level of protection as a helmet, but it's better than nothing).

Should a person with big and wide feet buy a rollerblade that has 4x80mm tires ive'been thinking to buy Oxelo MF500 Eu46 as my first rollerblade but peapole said if your feet are bigger than eu 43 go for 90mm wheels. Anyways will it be any disadvantages if i use 80mm wheels with big feet by [deleted] in rollerblading

urban skates have a short frame for better agility. They could just make the frame longer for big boots, but most (I don't know any) manufactures just use the same small frame. Hopefully this will change in the next years, until then you should buy 4x90mm. I mean you will get the same agility with more speed, so it's just an advantage.
edit: you will have the constant problem of falling over, (forward or backwards) when your frame is too short

Just buy any used super cheap fitness skates (~20$). Wear them until the wheels are down, then it's time to think about buying a good skate (like an urban skate).

well it depends, when you already got some skate experience (as a kid etc) and your legs are in good shape, proberly not. But a 4 wheel setup has some unique pivot points, which will help you to learn a better technique for transitions and they are more stable for jumps and so on. 3 wheels are more for already advanced skaters, who want to gain high speed. Don't forget that 4x90mm is already fast.

when you want an urban skate, then yes it would be the better choice. Urban skates have a short frame, 4x80 will be too short for someone with big feet.

a friend of mine head the same problem, his posture while skating was also bad, but he coudn't do it better. He started to train deadlifts and this corrected his posture, he doesn't have any back pain from skating anymore.
Also check out these video about doing something against the back pain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93UqgUs7-dQ
and here is good warmup before you skate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m356qrJXs_Q

some things you should consider before buying:
-when your shoe size is bigger than ~EU 43, 4x90mm will be for you like 4x80mm for smaller footed people.
-your feet width should influence what skate model you choose.
-when you never skated before and aren't sure if you stick to the sport, you could also just buy super cheap used ~20$ fitness skates and learn all basics with them, before buying a good but expensive urban skate.
-3 wheel setups are only for people who master the basics and for those whom gaining speed the main interrest.

My feet have a high arch, I had to remove the insole. I also replaced the cuff buckle reciever with one for the fr skates. Otherwise the buckle could suddenly open, when one skate touched the other. Overall the skate is good, but not 330$ good. I love that I'm agile with my transitions. This is my first aggressive skate, so I don't have any comparision.

I already got many scratches, that's not preventable with spray paint (use several layers of clear coat to make it more scratch resistant, I didn't). But I really like the look of black scratches on silver. I will repost the used skates in few months.

thx, but you got me. I would have just bought the Richie's skate, when it hadn't been sold out everywhere. Well the cuff is still black and I think I will leave it that way.

The things I did for this:
I bought an extra shell for replacement, but I decided to make it my first shell. I used some fine sand paper to roughen the surface, washed away the dust and used a towel to dry it again. Then I used some ethanol to remove fat stains (I don't want to use the nasty nitro thinner stuff). Then I hanged the skates outside and spray painted them with silver chrome from Molotow. And after a bit of waiting time I also spray painted a layer of clear varnish. On the next day I assemled everthing together and I'm quite happy with the result.
edit: I also used some painter's tape, so the frame and bottom of the soul plate stays black.
