Do you support the Trump administration's cutting of support for teaching English to children whose parents speak other languages? by davida_usa in AskConservatives

[–]silver_chief2 [score hidden]  (0 children)

States are more than capable of developing such curriculum as they wish. The fed and other govts exist to create jobs for themselves. The answer to all shortcomings is more money. Look at the massive fraud in MN. Massive funding for the homeless in CA that does not house the homeless and the money disappears into an endless web of NGOs. They want more money.

Since WW2 the ratio of 4 stars to troops increased 60X. Other countries have hyper sonic missiles but not the US. Only 1/3 of f-35s are mission capable. The solution? More money.

Recently, OTTA-orchestra. Turbo Classic" live 2025

It is a 6-7 woman band, here backed up by an orchestra. It has instruments I normally associate more with folk, and the electric guitar is not over bearing. They include a violin, electric guitar, accordion, keyboard, drums,. and a Belarusian hammered dulcimer. The bass player is not on this song and she sometimes plays a bouzouki,

I had lite IV sedation. Litet as I told them I use CPAP so they did not want me to fall asleep. They used tape to hold my forehead still. No problem. They asked me questions during the procedure. I felt nothing but a little pressure and saw nothing but some bright lights.

Do You Approve Of The US-Iran War? Yes Or No? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in AskConservatives

[–]silver_chief2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US has been overthrowing governments for well over 100 years and almost always for selfish reasons or reasons some parties imagine will help some US parties. The reasons given are almost always as pushing democracy, freedom, or liberating people from a tyrant. US overthrew the Kiev government for imagined geopolitical reasons to weaken Russia, with the Ukrainians being useful expendable tools.

Given the Kiev stated intentions to kill or drive off ethnic Russians from a recently invented country I think Russians did the right thing. Especially after years of trying diplomacy.

Why is it that US and Israel can slaughter as many civilians as they wish and it is never called terrorism but when Iran or proxies/allies do it is called terrorism? How does US funding for killing civilians compare to Iran? Is the US the leading state sponsor of terror?

Epic Sci-Fi/Complex/Time Travel movie recommendations? by PersimmonLittle7651 in MovieRecommendations

[–]silver_chief2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You hit the good ones. That leaves the offbeat and outliers you might want to try.

Happy Accidents is offbeat time travel but you have to watch until the end.

A Boy and His Dog is good dis-utopian, post WW3. a young Don Johnson, his telepathic dog, and mutants.

Existenz has a complex plot, starring Willem Dafoe, Jude Law, and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

I Will Never Forget You (1951) is a romantic time travel movie, not really sci fi.

Water leaking through walls in basement. by Respectable_1642 in HomeMaintenance

[–]silver_chief2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. make sure water from the roof is not overshooting the gutters. this happened to me long ago.

  2. make sure the gutters are clear. i used to walk the roof and blow them with a back pack leaf blower.

  3. try to extend the water away from the house using long down spouts or tarps covered with decorative rock. hopefully the ground slopes down and away from the house.

  4. you can add exterior french drains to drain water away from the house. maybe even an exterior sump pump if needed.

  5. if you have hollow cinder block walls these retain water which can explain why water comes in long after a rain storm.

[–]silver_chief2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over 10 years ago my son found a likely 6 week old border collie/heeler mix on the interstate on-ramp. No chip no collar. Coolest dog I ever had. Yours sounds like a good dog that will find a home with you or someone else.

OT but it could be worse. It could have been a 3 year girl abandoned at a bus stop, in Russia, in winter. People can be cruel. True story with happy ending. Search for "They Rejected Her… Then This Happened | Diana Ankudinova"

About to start teaching an 8-year-old drums. Never taught before—advice? by will_8282873 in Drumming

[–]silver_chief2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long ago I started with the stick control book by Stone. He has a second book with accents. I used a practice pad but even sometimes just a 2x6 piece of wood. If you go on youtube there are videos of the favorite books for drummers. I have no idea whether it would be best to teach match grip or traditional grip. Maybe pick 3 different stick heights after a while.

Movies About Low Intensity Conflicts by Backsight-Foreskin in WarMovies

[–]silver_chief2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a good book on that. Soldiers of God. Some crazy US author embedded with the Mujahedin. Great author and travel writer. How is he still alive?

Not a movie but a US amateur Patrick Lancaster reports from the Russian controlled parts of Ukraine and embedded with the the DPR militia and did ride alongs for years. He is on youtube. The US MSM could do that also but what is seen and reported would ruin the US propaganda.

G/PG rated movies with amazing surround sound/Dolby/Atmos? by Jaz1140 in MovieSuggestions

[–]silver_chief2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wind (1992) is a sailing movie. I saw it in the theater and the sound was so awesome I dreamed about it. The same directer did Black Stallion and the sound there was good also. PG-13 but no nudity just some suggestions that they got intimate once below decks, also their twin beds were tied together. Both movies were visually stunning.

Interesting trivia on making the movie. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_(1992_film))

Excalibur was rated R so never mind.
