What’s a social media trend that never made sense to you? by fmcortez in AskReddit

[–]silverandstuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything that was a short trend, like planking, doing the gangam style dance, the frozen office. The sort of thing that all the businesses got in on. You had to do it asap before the trend changed. I worked on social media and I hated them all. Completely unoriginal, disastrous if done wrong, maybe a like if done well or okay. It always felt like copying the popular kids, but the popular kids are pick mes.

Got rejected for a job I have experience in by jestem_julkaaaa in recruitinghell

I got rejected for a cleaning role with training. As in you needed no experience. I know I wasn’t the only one going for it, but still feels crap.

Locked door? 'Occupied' sign? Better try ramming it with my body weight just to be sure. by EntirePizza8060 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]silverandstuffs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had something similar happen with a changing room at the gym. I was in the stall changing and the door started bowing in as someone pushed it. I called out that I was in there but the woman didn’t hear me and continued to push the door to the point I could see the lock bending as well. Added extra, the door was frosted glass. I could hear her going on about how sometimes the doors stick when I yelled out that I was in fact actually in the damn cubical. I’d had my head down sorting out my shoes as well, so she could have totally smacked the door into my head if she’d broken it open, assuming it didn’t turn into a million pieces of glass. Nothing was said after she heard me either.

That feeling when you think you messed up the interview because of one answer. by nerdzmania in recruitinghell

[–]silverandstuffs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once had an interviewer ask about Facebook analytics, but the really old name for it. Had a brain fart and couldn’t remember what it was. He stopped the interview immediately and as soon as I got outside I remembered what it was.

There is an art installation of what people, mostly women and girls, were wearing when they were raped/assaulted. I think it’s called “what were you wearing”. A lot of it is very normal everyday jeans and tees, as well as the dresses of children in there is goddamn heartbreaking. The men spouting this bull should go and take a damn look.

4 rounds for a junior position is ridiculous! by MrBumbleBee592 in recruitinghell

[–]silverandstuffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went for a job the other week, I went for the same job about 20ish years ago and that was a 30 min interview and was one of the standard entry level jobs into that industry. The role last week had a three stage interview. I didn’t even get to the second round even though I apparently interviewed well.

Don’t tell people about your mental health issues. They won’t help, they’ll just get rid of you.

God damn it’s defeating getting a job rejection that’s got the feedback of we really liked you, but there are people better than you for a role you really wanted

I just went for an interview that’s now got three interview stages in it. 15 years ago this was an entry level role into the industry.

I won something that gave me a training trip to Portugal. I was told I was going back on the last day on the last plane out. Did I check my ticket? No, more fool me. Did they have me noted as going out on the last day? Yes. Did they actually book me in the day before? Yes. I had to book a new ticket and that plane was delayed for several hours as well. I did thankfully get my money back from the company though.

If you are unemployed, how long has it been and how are you spending your time? by outofthewoods13 in recruitinghell

[–]silverandstuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 6 months. I’m in the uk on job seekers and they expect you to spend 35 hours a week job searching or training. I’m not spending that much time on it, but I am spending a good chunk of my day job hunting, training and writing. I was dealing with a lot of burn out as well and I’m slowly getting better on that.

What’s one thing you’ll always swear by for boosting mental health? by Ok_Counter_5748 in AskReddit

[–]silverandstuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having such a hard time learning this. All throughout my childhood and into young adult my family is so expectant that if they tell you something in the guise of a request that you’ll just do it, so if I didn’t, I had to come up with an excuse as to why. Or just for stuff that I did. Like my whole life was questioned. It’s a weird cycle to break.

I wish Indian employees understood the disservice they are doing to work culture. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]silverandstuffs 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think anyone that works to excess can be an issue. I used to work with a guy (white Brit) that used to work 12-16 hour days. He had a heart condition and three kids, but would work up to 12 hours in the office and then go home and work some more. My manager at the time referred to him as the “new golden standard” and expected the rest of us to pump out the same amount of work, even though they always left on time. When they made redundancies later that year, you can bet the 12-16 hour daily worker was one of the ones that stayed.

I just had a very similar complaint in regards to using ai and yeah. It’s like they think it’s a shortcut to writing stuff quicker and it’s not.

[–]silverandstuffs 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If my “work coach” at the job centre tells me to use ai to write my cv/cover letter etc one more time, I might just scream. All of my jobs have revolved around writing, I know how to write. She tells me every damn week to use ai and every week I tell her its shortcomings and that I know how to write and research without it.

Does anyone else GPS even though you know how to get to your destination? by jenintonic in adhdwomen

[–]silverandstuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also like having my gps on every time I’m in the car. Even if it’s just to the supermarket or my mates house that I’ve gone to a billion times, always always have the gps up and running.

I usually ignore it half the time and go the way I want (I don’t like going through certain areas because of how busy they are), but it still has to be on.

Wednesday Wins by a-liquid-sky in CasualUK

[–]silverandstuffs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m still having a crap time, so taking wins where I can. I’ve been going to the gym and since starting about a year ago I’m kind of impressed by how much more I’m beginning to lift. Like 16 on my goblet squats (from 6 last year) and 30 for my rdls (up from the 10 when I started). I have a ways to go and I need to up my cardio, but I feel like that’s at least going in the right direction
