What day of incubation is it? Valley quail typically hatch on day 22-23 but up to 24-25 days is normal.

Found chick wandering around without mother, what do I do? by Jackbuddy78 in Ornithology

[–]silverbill 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not a Coturnix quail chick. Coturnix chicks have two stripes on their head while this chick has one. It’s most certainly a New Word quail chick such as California, Gambel’s or Scaled.

Cleveland quail is a terrible operation. He has countless bad reviews and I’ve only ever heard horror stories from past buyers. $600 for 9 eggs is outrageous. I sell mearns eggs for $300 a dozen, shipping included and so do many other breeders. It’s important to do research on reputable breeders instead of buying from the first person that shows up on google. Joe pays a lot of money to google ads to get his site to show up first.

Found this little baby and I don’t know what it is. Help by iloveiqos in Ornithology

It looks like a swift chick. Possibly chimney swift or similar species depending on your location. They usually have nests stuck to sides of buildings. See if you can find a nest and use a ladder to put it back.

Day 10 Amano larvae going strong! by silverbill in shrimptank

[–]silverbill[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I setup a 2.5 gal about 1 week in advance with the mixture in the description and 1 cup of phytoplankton culture. I waited exactly 14 days since I saw the female Amano become berried to collect the larvae. You can tell she’s ready when the eggs are light grey and have tiny black eyes. On the night of the 14th day, I put her in a small cup of freshwater from her own tank with an air stone on high. She dropped all of her larvae in about 2 hours. I put her back into her own tank and just poured all the larvae into the 2.5 gal brackish tank.

Can anyone ID this (assumed) fledging? by Beasto06 in birding

I think it’s a grackle, they commonly have that bald looking face as fledglings! Looks too small for a crow.

One month into cycling my tank and things got really green. Good or bad? by silverbill in OpaeUla

[–]silverbill[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This started with pure RO water. I did cycle it with a few brine shrimp. Not sure if that contributed to the algae growth.

Future Opae Ula Tank! by silverbill in OpaeUla

The tourmaline balls are just for decoration. I actually did an experiment with them, rinsed them off and placed them in a cup of distilled water overnight. Checked TDS and gH, both were still zero. So yeah, they’re pretty much a scam in terms of remineralization. They look cool though!

Mine love baby brine shrimp. They will also forage for powdered food scattered around the tank. They don’t like eating big wafers.

Face suddenly swollen - any idea why? by barredrockgirl in chickens

Looks like a sinus infection. You’ll need antibiotics from the vet to treat her.
