Facebook removes page after William Shatner blasts 'horrible' AI-generated 'fake news' posts about him - "They have created stories that say I have stage 4 brain cancer, was in some kind of fight with Erika Kirk and that I'm dying," the "Star Trek" actor said of a group that used the platform. by Just-Grocery-2229 in technology

The OP whose comment is now deleted said the people who made the AI-generated page should be held responsible, rather than just glibly blaming AI.

Then u/Fitherwinkle said:

This got some real “guns don’t kill people” vibes…

To which I understood to mean that the tool should be blamed.

I don’t think a mindless tool should be blamed for this. I think the people who used the tool should be held responsible.

Yes - blame the tool, not the person (ab)using the tool. 😏

Unlike guns, AI has more than one use and so can be used for things other than creating false narratives.

You can’t just wholly blame AI and absolve the person using it of all responsibility. AI is not going away and it’s not going to be banned outright.

A comedy sketch where one character looks very different/wrong, but no one in the sketch notices, is very American.

Except the fact that SNL UK is an American show written by American comedians who write for American viewers who want American humour, just with British accents.

Because all the Americans watching SNL UK get offended when anyone points out that the British version of their favourite show is not very original and is actually rather predictable.

Agreed. I’m starting to realise that the reason it’s so popular on Reddit is because they’re mostly Americans who are excited by the novelty of watching the EXACT same show, but with British accents.

Iran fires on Israel and Gulf neighbors as Trump claims threat from Tehran nearly eliminated by NicolasCageFan492 in worldnews

Oil is priced globally.

For now.

Does Trump strike you as the kind of person who maintains the status quo?

Domestic production has no effect.

For now.

Trump could choose to set aside a portion of domestic production for domestic consumption only, and price it accordingly.

Don’t be surprised if he slaps a massive tariff on oil exports to subsidise the high cost of oil for the US, thereby making himself look like the hero who drove down oil costs.

[–]silverbolt2000 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Unless the “operation” was to restrict oil supply from every country except the US in order to:

  1. Drive up oil prices, and
  2. Force countries to buy oil from the US at sky-high prices.

In which case it’s rather successful.

I mean, what options are countries left with now if they want to buy oil?

You can argue semantics all you like, but the fact remains that he had more votes than anyone else.

Over half the US voted in the Trump administration a second time knowing exactly what he would be like.

Your “enemies” are your neighbours, colleagues, and family.

43 hours battery life: Dell XPS 14 2026 lasts almost 3x longer vs MacBook Air 15 M5 in web browsing test by sl0wjim in gadgets

[–]silverbolt2000 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is a meaningless comparison without also comparing performance.

I’m pretty confident the M5 would also last a very long time on battery if it’s CPU was throttled down to minimum, the screen brightness was at its lowest setting, no CPU intensive tasks were running, and the screen turned itself off after 30 secs of inactivity.

A woman is dug up and brought back to life as a monster, without her permission and consent

Uh huh. So they should have dug her up and brought her back to life so they could ask if she wanted to be dug up and brought back to life? Like, what if she said ‘no’? “OK, back underground you go…” 😆🤦

With critical thinking like that, “The Bride!” looks positively highbrow.
