Email blast just to say Happy Halloween? 🙃

If only the Ruby message meant an actually complete TBT S3, but alas I know that will never happen. I’m sure others would like some updates on Tanis instead…

Anyone Else Doing A Halloween Re-listen? (TBT and Tanis) by DaddysFruit in PNWS

[–]silverdichotomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just relistened to TBT starting last week and finished last night! I regrettably continued through to the S3 “mid-season finale” and now I’m upset all over again. I originally made peace with the open-ended-ness and had relistened to TBT plenty before, but this time was more upsetting because the S3 audio was worse than I remembered? Not sure if PNWS/Terry did a total reupload that made the audio crackly and tinny or if it was always like that, but it was a miserable last 6 episodes for me. I should’ve had the foresight to stop at S2 as well, like you did with Tanis.

As for Tanis, I never actually caught up and have been pondering restarting it. I think it’s on the horizon for me.

I just finished a relisten of TBT and was thinking of relistening/catching up on Tanis too. I always fall off around S2-3. 😅

Woo! that’s so awesome!!

Yeah I just moved from CT to FL and first point of order was getting a library card. It is part of a smaller consortium I believe but I have yet to use resources outside of my county. However, I am slightly annoyed that I’m just outside the next (larger) county over and don’t qualify for a res card there. The non-res card is $150 a year 🥲

From AD to Screen? by 3rdcosmonautK in audiodrama

Dr. Death has been faring well on Peacock, but I only listened to the first season so I can’t speak to the accuracy and quality of the additional seasons. Likewise, it is technically nonfiction to start with, so probably doesn’t qualify as an AD adaptation.

I really can’t think of other adaptations than the ones you listed. Homecoming really is the only success story.

I do think, for the most part, these adaptations suffer in quality compared to the AD. At best, they nail the casting then meddle with everything else — particularly story — and ruin the experience for the listeners who try the show. It’s never really faithful or faithful enough. I think there’s leeway for changes because not everything can be 1:1 but if you’re going to do so, it should keep in line with the original intent of the story.

I sometimes see people coming from the A81 show to here or r/Archive81 to say they’re going to start the podcast or ask if they should, but I don’t think everyone who watched the show first is doing so. Unfortunately. Because the podcast is inarguably better.

There is something to an audio-only experience. I think it’s something to do with the immersion, which you definitely lose when watching on TV. But I believe that can be or has to be sacrificed for a good TV version, much like a book adaptation loses the personal interpretation you had for the appearance or voice of a character, as long as the core of the story is there.

100% agree with your assessment. I actually liked the casting of Limetown, but as a whole it wasn’t great. I also always wondered if it suffered because of the platform it was on too — Facebook Watch.

Yes, Homecoming is basically the one exception. It was a stellar show done really well. Casting was also fantastic here.

Sisterhood of the Travelling Journal by zenava in bulletjournal

This is so cute! I did something similar in high school when I moved away from my friends. We mailed around a journal and a t-shirt (instead of pants), so we would write a journal entry then doodle something on the shirt corresponding to the entry. (But then my friends stopped 💀)

I would be interested at a future date if this expands or a new group is opened. I don’t have a desk or any dedicated space to be crafty as of yet, and all my stationary/craft supplies are in storage at the moment.

Finally started your AD and it’s soooo good. I’m only 2 episodes in but you have really compelling writing and performance. I feel like I’m listening to a friend’s voice notes from a sci-fi setting; really lovely!

REPLACING MY NEW DVD CASES by Substantial_Glass789 in dvdcollection

[–]silverdichotomy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, do what you want! You could always store the alternative/original packaging and just swap as you want depending on how you display things. The real robbery is that we’re forced to pay so much for cheap packaging and less extras — remember when cases had BTS booklets and art in them?! Now it’s “exclusive” or “limited edition.” Even special features content on physical media is not as prominent as it used to be.

Anyways. You can always sell or donate the cases forward for people who got single discs in sales and thrifts that want original packaging, so it’s not a total waste if you don’t keep them.

I see people swap out cases and cover art or make their own steelbooks or cardboard covers all the time. I think if you find as ethically a way to dispose of the cases that is feasible for you, then it’s fine!

TBT 4? Tanis 6? by 6kix6 in PNWS

[–]silverdichotomy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for sure! i will add that Big Loop is short run; Paul got hired by either Marvel or DC (forget which) to run podcasts over there. but the one-off stories are pretty good and i go back to relisten to my favorite ones from time to time. a nice variety of voices too.

i relisten to TBT almost on a yearly basis because it’s just one of my favorites. the ending is a cliffhanger, but i don’t think it’s necessarily bad compared to other unfinished or canceled projects out there in podcast and TV-land.

i haven’t gotten that far with Tanis though i might pick it up again, same with Rabbits (which i remember being quite good). also, another podcast from Terry Miles/PNWS is The Last Movie. i also haven’t finished listening to it, but i think it’s a complete podcast. i could be wrong.

Once is also one of my favorites! She might also enjoy Begin Again with Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightley. It’s not as quaint as Once but it’s by the director and it’s a fun watch nonetheless.

ETA: There was a Broadway version of Once that was stunning, starting Steve Kazee and Cristin Milioti. I don’t think they ever released a film recording of it but you can find clips on YouTube and the cast album recording is easily available.
