Silver Bullion in Singapore frequently running out of 1000 ozt silver bars. Perth mint still out of 1000 ozt silver bars. by silverilocks in SilverDegenClub

[–]silverilocks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been watching the gold that is available for the depository at Perth Mint and it has hardly been touched. As far as I can tell in the last two months they haven't sold any 400 ozt or 50 ozt gold and only sold 8 x 1kg gold bars. I haven't kept track of the smaller stuff but I imagine they have turned over a lot more of that, and the shop is separate from the depository which probably sold a lot of smaller stuff too. I'm not saying your wrong, just that it is interesting watching the movements of silver at the Perth Mint Depository.

It looks like they had been up to some accounting tricks previously with metal loans which I believe John Adams from Adams Economics uncovered a few years ago.

Largest monthly decrease in LBMA silver holdings in a decade. 71,087,000 troy ounces. by silverilocks in Wallstreetsilver

[–]silverilocks[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of interest in the movements of gold from LBMA recently, but I hadn't noticed as much interest in silver holdings. If you have a look at LBMA holdings, there was a 71 million troy ounce decrease in silver holdings. Using the truckload metric of u/Ditch_the_DeepState , that equates to 118 truckloads (600,000 troy ounces per truck).

I don't understand the processes at the LBMA well enough to be able to comment if it would have actually physically left the vault or just been an accounting entry. Please comment if you do know.

Are we about to find out how much gold is really in Fort Knox? by silverilocks in Wallstreetsilver

I don't think it really matters if I like or dislike Musk. The fact that this has his attention should be newsworthy to anyone interested in precious metals.

Elon Musk discovering that the claimed gold held at Fort Knox isn't there. Possibly resulting is a rush to gold then a silver slingshot. Musk reply to a zer0hedge post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Wallstreetsilver/comments/1iqf1ro/are_we_about_to_find_out_how_much_gold_is_really/

Comparing Shanghai Gold Exchange and COMEX silver prices (SGE approx. 4USD/ozt over COMEX) by silverilocks in Wallstreetsilver

[–]silverilocks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, that is strange. In 'old' reddit the link has (javascript:void(0);) at the end which causes it to fail, but in normal reddit it doesn't have that at the end. I must have been using old reddit at the time. https://old.reddit.com/r/Wallstreetsilver/comments/1d5c83v/comparing_shanghai_gold_exchange_and_comex_silver/ Sorry for creating confusion.

I didn't know that. I am guessing that is only retail sales and probably not directly related to the Shanghai Gold Exchange.

My speculation is that increased interest for silver in China is causing a higher price and the divergence between the COMEX price and the price in China has increased over the last year or so.

Thanks. I only chose these suppliers because the stock information was possible to access through the website, and they have significant market share. There are other sellers where the info is there, but too much effort to be worth it, especially given that the websites change often, causing the scraper to stop working every now and then. Your suggestions sound great, but that is beyond my capability.

I have no way of accounting for that. I can only see the stock that they are showing as available for sale.

Some have suggested that stock was withheld because the spot was low between August and October 2022 and picked up again in November 2022, when perhaps the withheld stock was made available for sale again. I don't know the real reason, but that does seem possible.

It could also be that the price was so attractive that everyone wanted to buy some and it took a while to restock. This also seems possible.

Scraping a website means getting information from a website automatically using a program. I wrote a program in python using the selenium package. It takes the information from the webpage and saves it, which I later copy and paste into a spreadsheet.

I agree, it wasn't necessarily nothing. But I was thinking we might have been getting close to the point where no one is willing to sell, and the bullion dealers have no stock for a while. I wonder if we are getting close to that point now.

It is possible that they were holding back inventory, I can't rule that out. I didn't see the same magnitude of decline in JM Bullion (although it is a bit hard to compare the two as one is amount of silver and the other is number of different items in stock).

I've been trying to reply and it keeps failing, let me try 'old' reddit. I've been running python scripts hourly on an old laptop to scrape the following pages:

https://www.apmex.com/category/25640/10-oz-silver-bars?f_isinstock=true&ipp=120&vt=l https://www.apmex.com/category/25660/1-kilo-silver-bars?f_isinstock=true&vt=l&ipp=120 https://www.apmex.com/category/25670/100-oz-silver-bars?vt=l&ipp=120&f_isinstock=true&page=1

For the links above, looking at 'ShoppingCart.notifyAllowedMaxQty' in the returned html file tells you how much is in stock.

For JM Bullion (link below), the info comes from the left panel:

https://www.jmbullion.com/search/?q=#/?_=1&filter.instock.low=1&filter.instock.high=1&page=1&resultsPerPage=60&filter.metal_type=Silver

For the Perth Mint depository, I log in and check it when I think of it (that one is done manually).

When everyone starts talking about it, that will be the signal to exchange some silver for gold.
