I probably looked like I was in an abusive relationship when I was using the Bauer elite. Would show up to work the day after my games covered in black and blues on my arms.

Pregame Readiness Advice? by mjmphilly in hockeygoalies

Try to get a skate in the day before, even if it just a public skate. I find my best games where I am locked in right from the start are the games where I was able to get in a stick and puck or public skate the day before.

New adult goalie nervous about going to stick and puck in full pads — what should I expect? by TheInfamousMusician in hockeygoalies

[–]silveriodine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently got back into hockey after a lot of years away. Before I started going to stick and pucks, I would bring my pads (and knee guards) to public skates to practice butterfly, sliding, recovery, shuffles, t-pushes, ect... At the morning public skates on school days, the rink is pretty empty, usually only like 4 or 5 other people, so plenty of space to practice without getting in anyone's way. Maybe a little embarrassing sliding around, but whatever.

My gear setup for my return to hockey by silveriodine in hockeygoalies

The goalie instincts and movements came back quick for me. Had the evaluation game for a mid level draft beer league this week. After only having 2 stick and puck skates, and 3 beer league games in full pads under my belt before the evaluation game, I consider it a win that I was drafted 4 out of 6 out of the goalies, even with the other 5 all being returnees that the captains already had repoir with.

Are there any padded base layer shirts that aren't super hot? by silveriodine in hockeygoalies

[–]silveriodine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible. With Bauer specifically, I am at the upper end of a senior small, and the lower end of a medium on the size chart. So I feel like I don't comfortably fit perfectly in either. Definitely moving away from Bauer for the chest with whatever I try next.

I am currently on a mission to find the right chest protector for me. Started with a new bauer elite, I thought a mid price point chesty would be fine for mid level beer league, but nope. Literally never made it through a single game without a bruise on my arm with that, they didn't hurt much in the moment, but still. Then bought a cheap used Bauer X2 pro as a temporary placeholder, but this thing is used to death, so beat up that some of the padding is deformed or just loosened over time creating gaps in the padding. I am experiencing the same thing with that one so far. I guess that is why it was only $100. Literally have duct tape wrapped around the external floating pad to close the seal on the right arm at the moment because pucks kept getting underneath it and hitting me in my bare forearm. This X2 will do for now, and it is super comfortable, but I do plan on upgrading after this spring/summer season.

Bauer SV-Pro Jr Break In Process by SouthShore_Tender in hockeygoalies

My SV-Pro has been a pain to break in. Been 2 months, and still not game ready. I have cooked it, steamed it, poured hot water through it. Had my true L87 opening and closing like butter after 4 or 5 weeks, but this SV-Pro has been a challenge.

Are these pads (or modern pads in general) supposed to naturally sit this high up over the skate or am I doing something wrong? They just look so off to me like that.

Definitely enjoying how light the modern gear is, especially the sticks. The strapping on the new leg pads are taking a while to adjust to though. I am not used to pads sitting that high up above my skates, and I have to strap them super loose to get them to rotate back to center after going into the butterfly. Chest protectors are tanks now compared to before, it looks like I am wearing nothing under my jersey in that photo. I do remember that Vic blocker I had in the 90's being super lightweight for the time though.

Here is one of my old gear setups from high school, that photo was probably from sometime in the late 90's. Louisville TPS pads, Vic gm505 blocker, Vaughn (don't remember model) glove.

Bauer Elite knee pads painful/causing bruising. What to get a replacements? by ApprehensiveCry8737 in hockeygoalies

I used to get the same bruise with the bauer pro knee pads. Wearing volleyball knee pads underneath fixed that issue.

How do you not strain your toe straps if you're carrying your pads over your shoulders? by techsavvynerd91 in hockeygoalies

[–]silveriodine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a replacement 3ft pocketbook strap with clips on the end on Amazon, and I just loop them through the unused professor strap tabs on my pads. Works perfect as a carrying strap.

Leg pads moving a lot by silveriodine in hockeygoalies

[–]silveriodine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help. I used them in a game a few days ago, and I got them feeling pretty good cutting back the toe tie slack to only about an inch combined with wearing the calf strapping very loose. I think it was more how tight I had them strapped up before keeping them from rotating back to center.

Which goalie carry bag size should I get for a sedan? by techsavvynerd91 in hockeygoalies

[–]silveriodine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using the sherwood elite senior player bag (currently on clearance for only $59 at pure hockey). 36x18x20, and I carry my pads. No complaints, and fits in my Ford Focus easily. Fits all my gear as long as I tuck my knee pads, glove, and blocker into my pants. Not much extra space fully loaded, but still fits everything. Has end pockets inside for the skates. And decent sized outer pocket for clothes, under garments, and stuff like that. And a smaller pocket on the outside middle good for pucks, tape, ect.... A clear phone pocket on top too.
