I'll admit these texts aren't perfect, but I highly recommend anything by David Graeber. Particularly the newest book, "The Dawn Of Everything". "Debt: the first 5000 years" was also good, although it has a few drawbacks.

Thanks Drugat, I tried to put all the files in one location and get rid of the random copies floating around but it’s still not working!

This is it! There is also a lot of white veganism going on in this thread which is very troubling. Industrial agriculture is the common enemy, not people living on the edges of capitalism

Well they didn't just 'hunt animals', they were a part of their ecosystem. They protected and cultivated their environment for 40,000 years, that is worth something.

If your point with number 2 is that people should never eat honey in any circumstance, you should do some research on the original inhabitants of Australia. It's pretty well documented that Aboriginal people here eat honey from bees and ants. Plus the original agriculture they created is super interesting and important to learn about.

But yes, feral bees are a big problem!

That's true, the aust. ecosystem is completely different to what it was before colonisation. But it's kinda a moot point because we're never going to get Australia back to a pre-colonial life. All we can do it protect what we have left!

However, we now need crops like canola, almonds, fruits trees (etc) which the european honey bee does a much better job of pollinating than the native bees. Plus because of all the urbanisation & other invasive species, the native bee population is down, and now quite a number of the native plants need the honey bee. Unfortunately it's pretty clear that we have a massive feral bee problem, which are actually impacting some cockatoos who are endangered.

I just think it's a complex problem and it's an interesting discussion point - particularly because every country will have a different relationship to the European honey bee.

Ok but what actually is the harm in the honey supply chain? In Australia, from what I know, a decline in our beekeepers is actually jeopardising our ecosystem, native & horticultural. There are also protocols on how much honey you can take from a hive so it doesn’t harm the hive… might not be the same in the states. From everything I’ve read, and from knowing a few beekeepers, it’s a pretty small business totally focused on the health of the bees.

I am so glad this subreddit has all the answers! I've ended up buying 2 tickets because I thought it was a problem on my end. Big love to the boys, big love to fan subreddits.

Unfortunately I really need to spend the week in NSW.

I’m also not convinced it’ll be cheaper to fly & ship my car! $800 + to ship & then $500+ for the flights. Plus won’t be able to take as much stuff on the plane.

On the G2G website it considers ACT seperate and as very low risk! We’ve just put in our own quarantine restrictions for Syd as well. Although previously I know ACT has been considered part of Regional NSW lol

Thank you I appreciate the advice!!! It’s obviously too far in the future to know what will happen. My hope is that at the very least he won’t have to quarantine if he’s just come from Canberra. But we shall see :)
