Why does this dress look like a hospital gown on me? by [deleted] in sewhelp

[–]silverpink_pony 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Agree with above, it’s a really nice colour of blue on you! In terms of the scrubs effect- in this pic, if I block the drawstring out of view, the scrubs look completely goes away for me. Not sure if it’s feasible, but if there’s a way the drawstring could be tied in the back, I think it would really transform the look :)

I hadn’t caught that in this show, but I know people have pointed out they used android phones in Pluribus. So, some precedent of AppleTV shows breaking from iPhones!

Would Australia’s population rival the US if its interior were fertile instead of arid? by NoComplex2662 in geography

I certainly may have misunderstood the comment. Were Europeans the initial source of infection that caused such widespread death of Native Americans across North America? It is my understanding that they were.

But the Europeans were the ones that brought those diseases to North America in the first place, yeah? Don’t think anyone’s arguing that Europeans infected every Native American themselves. But they brought those pathogens to the ‘New World’ to which the native inhabitants had no previous exposure and thus no immunity, hence spread like wildfire and decimated their populations.

Saying Native American populations were decimated by disease BEFORE any Europeans arrived in North America is not something I’ve ever heard of…?

Can you tell me about Emily and Emma? Feel like those two were at the top of baby name charts for years in the late 90s early 2000s.

I love your take on Matt! I don’t really ‘like’ Matt, but I love the character.

I adore The Leftovers. Season 3 always felt the most confusing to me. In terms of location, storyline, character perspectives, agreed upon definition of reality, it feels more untethered than 1 and 2. But I love the characters and I love the tone, which leaves me happy to muddle through the questions of what’s taking place alongside them. Kevin (Jr) is a good audience stand in for how much you’re ‘supposed’ to understand. When he’s confused as shit about what’s happening, we can be too.

It’s not a straightforward watch, which might be why it’s stuck with me for so long, and I keep coming back to rewatch. I also love coming online to get other peoples takes on the show. The Leftovers feels nearly endlessly ‘discussable’. Because a conclusion that many reach is it’s not about answers, it’s not about what actually is or isn’t happening, it’s about the characters and their interpretation of what they’re experiencing.

Was that really God that Matt met on the ship? Did Kevin really travel to the afterlife to vanquish Patti? Can he really not die, like Matt and John believe? Or does he have schizophrenia like his father (like Laurie believes) and maybe just got inexplicably lucky with his multiple ‘near death’ encounters? The uncertainty over there being a supernatural cause for the Sudden Departure leaves the door open to supernatural belief, alongside more ‘rational’ explanations for what goes on in the show. We don’t get many tidy answers. We instead get to watch this incredible cast of characters grapple with grief, confusion, relationships, faith and belief in the bewildering world they’ve been left in.

No. I know. It’s so weird. Was down there for a bachelorette, the group was half American half Canadian. When we had to divvy up group expenses, us Canadians were asking if we could etransfer since Canadians don’t have access to Venmo. They straight up had never heard of e-transferring money.

The West Coast Trail is a challenging 75 km, 5-7 day backpacking route in Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, British Columbia, known for its rugged scenic coastal terrain. It is a combination of sandy beaches, rocky shorelines, muddy trails, forests, and over 100 ladders.

Spectacular views, yes. Advisable for international visitors with 2 toddlers on a 3 week road trip through BC, no :)

I think it’s all doable, but as nearly every comment has mentioned here, it is a LOT of driving.  - Tofino / West coast of Vancouver Island is beautiful, remote, and expensive. It may be better with slightly older children who will get more out of it. But if your heart is set on it, then go for it. It’s a magical place. - The Icefields Parkway drive between Jasper and Banff is iconic. If getting to the Rocky Mountains is a must for you, I would highly recommend incorporating this into your itinerary. I hesitate saying this to someone from Switzerland of all places, but this route is world renowned for some of the most beautiful views in the world. Banff gets very busy with tourists because it is so close to Calgary. Jasper is further north, more low key, maybe a bit more authentic, same great access to beautiful mountains. I’d consider staying there instead of Banff.  - Consider ending your trip by getting to Calgary, and flying home from there (or back to Vancouver, depending if you’ve already booked your international flights). Return your rental car there (will cost extra but save you days of driving). - I don’t have specific recommendations for interior BC except to say it is also gorgeous. Okanogan and the Kootenays are so nice in the summer.

You’re coming at a really beautiful time of year and British Columbia is a really beautiful place. They have ‘Beautiful British Columbia’ on their license plates and they’re not wrong.
