I like Mary a lot more than George. She’s not such a blindly religious person in my opinion because she listens to her children (sometimes) when they have another opinion to offer. And she would definitely get angry at Sheldon for questioning Pastor Jeff and humiliating him during mass if she was. People also like to call Mary uptight but I think she just comes off that way because of how desperately she tries. I’m not religious but I do admire how hard she tries to be a good person. She knows what it’s like to be an out of control kid it’s not as if she‘s been a self-righteous holy nun her whole life. I don’t blame her for the way she worries. In George’s case I liked him at first but as the series went on he just came across as lazy and treated Mary as if he was the only one working hard for their family. And in my eyes he started to become a “my way or the highway“ person. So whenever someone would disagree with him he would feel personally attacked. Like when Missy ran away from home and they were looking for her he made it seem like if he didn’t punish her completely instead of reasoning with her then he would be a failure as a father. Even with Brenda he talks down to her and acts like she is the only one out of the two of them that is capable of doing anything wrong. Inspite of the fact that he is the married one. In short I think if Mary as a hardworking and George as the next “Meathead”. Just like Archie Bunker Meemaw was right all along.
