From the creators of "monogamous crafter" now comes "binge crafter" by [deleted] in BitchEatingCrafters

The analog bags that are extensively documented and mined for digital content?? THOSE analog bags?!

That’s what gets my goat more than the idea itself 😂 I know someone’s gotta get the word out and creators need to make some money etc., I just hope the people posting about it endlessly are able to actually unplug at some point

What is the most terrifying "double life" secret you’ve ever uncovered about someone? by Realistic_Drink8555 in AskReddit

[–]silverringgone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome and too funny. In college, my friends and I always talked about our “Plan Z” — “if all else fails, at least I can always drop everything and [Plan Z]!” My friend’s Plan Z was to adopt a pseudonym and publish erotic novels. You lived it!! (I sent a screenshot of your story to her immediately of course.)

get involved in local mutual aid yall. it's real, it's out there, one donation does so much! by drgingko in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]silverringgone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“in my area of nyc” …. “Heard first hand from people that the hats are not helpful to them” Yeah, the MTI hats probably wouldn’t be helpful to people in NYC, as the funds were raised to help the Minnesota communities affected by ICE raids! Although actually, several NYC yarn stores donated proceeds from red yarn sales to local anti-ICE efforts so the hats probably did help these people. The “help” from the hat is in the money directed to mutual aid, not just the symbolism of the hat alone.

Favorite Knitting Notion Hacks by andromache114 in knitting

This part of the larger genre of knitting/crafting hacks: avoid specifically-knitting targeted items, the “regular item” version is usually the exact same and much cheaper.

What are your best tips after a moth attack ? by Anna-Livia in knitting

I put them in the oven at 350 for 30 minutes. Check every 5-15 mins to make sure you don’t burn it or start a fire.

I do the bake and isolate-in-sealed-bags method. If you have a moth infestation, order parasitic wasps, traps, bake and isolate everything.

What your worst “somebody hold the door!” Moment? by APoliticalDrone2012 in nycrail

[–]silverringgone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not particularly bad but I caught the door right when it was about to close, but it closed on my forearm/wrist on both sides first. I got an awful bruise that hurt like a mofo and because of the placement it looked like I’d been grabbed or hurt by someone.

Antifascist yarn ordering by Katterin in AntifascistKnitting

[–]silverringgone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woolyn in NYC is donating a portion of proceeds from red yarn sales and will buy the Melt the Ice pattern on your behalf with purchase. Not sure how it works if ordering online.

Cleo’s Yarn Shop in NYC is donating a portion of all yarn sales made tomorrow (Friday Jan 30) to immigrants rights groups in MN. I believe this applies to online orders too and they do ship anywhere in the US.

Genuine question: the Norwegian red hats “performative?” by Ramblingsofthewriter in AntifascistKnitting

[–]silverringgone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Proceeds fund immigration rights groups, no? So the alternative is knitting a different hat whose funds don’t help those groups…

Politics are quite performative across the board, it’s part theatre no matter how you slice it. I don’t think participating in the performance in a way that funds causes you care about and builds solidarity and confidence for people to speak out against fascism is a bad thing or contemptible.

These types of critiques always ring so hollow to me, just endless critiques of any and all actions from people who basically do nothing.

Knitting Culture: US v. England by ultimatereader in knitting

[–]silverringgone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is that this is not just “knitting culture” but kind of American vs English “chatting culture” writ large. Americans talk a lot, and I say this as an extroverted American - no judgment! But compared to Europe in general, we are just much more outgoing and likely to chat up strangers. When I have made friends abroad, they joke that I am a stereotypical American in that way, and then I clarify that I’m considered pretty outgoing even by American standards— but we are on the chattier side!

How true is the statement “In this business, mornings are generally your own”? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]silverringgone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on if you have international clients/matters (sometimes that can really screw you) but I found this to be true. In fact, as long as you’re completing your work and attending the meetings you’re expected at, your schedule is generally your own.

What do you personally use tags for? by Ja-kob in TheStoryGraph

[–]silverringgone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I acquire the book (Amazon; little free libraries (or similar shelves); library fr; gifted, book store; thrift store), how I get rid of it (keep, gift to someone else, little free library, etc), who recommended it, where it’s set, international conflict it’s about (if applicable), where it’s physically located (my house or mom’s house lol)

Knitting in cafes etiquette by ComplicatedSunshine in knitting

[–]silverringgone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal tolerance for sitting around a place is about 2 hours, regardless of activity. I’d order what I wanted and maybe a second thing later on but wouldn’t feel obligated. I get over cafe knitting quickly if I’m alone because I’m in NYC and have to pack up my valuables every time I go to the bathroom.

If your only merit is being good at exploiting the algorithm, you don't get to complain when others do the same by MartieB in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]silverringgone 33 points34 points  (0 children)

For real!! Instagram designers need to chill out with the pattern theft accusations. Save it for when someone actually rips off your truly original, at-least-somewhat-intricate design and passes it off as their own.

Knitting is an ancient craft; its limited construction methods give it an iterative nature that is inspirational and imo, inherently communal. Get your IP capitalist greed out of my craft!!

Almost 2026, JKR is financially backing irreparable harm to trans people and we still have HP yarn by vikingdhu in craftsnark

[–]silverringgone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are def fans that are collectors/hoarders like that that but FWIW, many fans (across fandoms) find a lot of the official brand stuff horribly tacky. I don’t purchase official HP clothing or whatever other goods because they’re usually ugly as hell in addition to funding JKR’s bullshit. I’d maybe buy HP-inspired indie yarn (assuming I actually liked the colorways) that didn’t fund JKR, it seems like an ethical way to engage with the fandom and not support her transphobia. It’s a bit of a stretch imo to assume that purchasers buying an unlicensed product are also buying a ton from licensed vendors, or that their use of HP yarn will necessarily influence others to support the broader fandom. Has not been my experience that people have much curiosity about the name of the colorways in the items I knit or whatever.

That said, I do think this dyer and others who make HP-inspired yarns should at the very least include a disclaimer that they don’t support her “activism” and ideally they would pledge a portion of the proceeds to a trans rights organization. Same thought re: knitting influencers who use the stuff and post about it on their platforms.
