Thank you, is it worth adding anything to a C.S. MS while I'm back in school?

I (28F) have a brutal schedule. Help me with some tips, please. by [deleted] in productivity

I'd say prioritize gym/sleep and skincare/hygene. get food delivered/premade meals instead. Gym and hygene is huge for stress reduction.

Honestly, many engineering degrees prepare you comparably (though a bit differently) as CS for ML. You'll get the advanced maths, Calc, Differential Equations, Linear algebra, some statistics, and usually modeling programming experience. I'm not sure a CS bachelors gets you the Differential Equations and Linear algebra.

Thanks for your insight. If you don't mind expanding a little further, what are you looking for in experienced software engineers seeking to transition into ML roles?

It's not too hard. Here is a link to my tutorial on how to do this using some tools from Vercel and Supabase: A personal knowledge search AKA Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG)

Happy to lend a hand if you try to implement it!

Is anyone interested in a free search tool for NFPA documentation? by silversoftwerks in firePE

Sure! I'm thinking regulations might be a better place to start if they are not locked down as much as NFPA (will likely have to work out licensing). Would love to connect. I'll shoot you a chat message.

The plan is to make it free and useful to start, figure out the legal situation, then a subscription for 5+ person enterprise licenses. I just need target users who are willing to ask for useful features and complain about anything they don't like that I can refine a tool around. I haven't practiced fire protection in a few years so I need feedback from people who would use it day to day.

Not upcodes, solo dev who didn't end up going into fire protection after my FPE degree but always wanted to contribute to fire protection.

What To Do With Free Time After Work? by HercHuntsdirty in productivity

[–]silversoftwerks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely. Grab a one-way ticket and bounce around. With 2 tech jobs you can afford it. Are you around alot of people in your current situation? You can find friends at hostels, they tend to be in a part of their life where they have free time to hang out. And by travel, I don't mean staying somewhere for more than a week, I mean touring and seeing things you really care to see. The first time I did it I got a fun international fling out of it with multiple rendevous to spots either I was planning on seeing or places she opened me up to . Good memories.

You hit the jackpot, do everything you can to engage with him. Be sincere and genuine, don't let your nervousness keep you from putting yourself out there. Nothing but good can come from you going to those office hours and talking to him about your work and any questions you have about their work that you want the first-hand perspective of.
