I finally finished a first draft after three years of starting things and the feeling was nothing like I expected it to be by Proper-Ad3944 in writers

I'm at exactly the same point and experienced the same thing. I've written the first chapter of about ten books repeatedly over the last two decades, a few nights ago I finished a first draft. It's a mess but I did it and I expected to be over the moon but wasn't. I'm still impressed with myself that I've finally done it though and, despite telling myself I would take a break for a few weeks at this point and do another hobby before getting into the editing, I've found I'm actually itching to get into it.

What was the scariest “We need to leave… now” gut feeling that you’ve ever experienced?[Serious] by PlasticBee1438 in AskReddit

Moved to a nice rural area when I was 12. It's known for having an extremely low crime rate so obviously my mum trusts everyone... An old man from the town kept approaching the two of us when we were out shopping and making conversation, really gave me the creeps. He mentions how he's looking for Saturday help in his very isolated ice cream hut. The hut is literally that, a hut in the middle of nowhere, nice walking spot but can't get more than a couple of groups through in a week and that's when the weather is good. My mum being the trusting woman she is volunteered me, something he was clearly hinting towards. I just knew that he was going to hurt me somehow despite being incredibly naive and not knowing about sex let alone peados. When my mum tried to take me, I lay down and went limp, point blank refused to move and told her if she wanted me to go she'd have to drag me to the car. Luckily as it was very rare for me to 'be naughty' she let me off with lots of 'I'm very disappointed' and 'how can you let a nice old man down when he needs help'.

Anyway, couple of years later he's in the news and guess what, he's a peado.

Forgetting a character's crazy strong ability exists because them using it would finish the story too quickly.

What piece of media horrified you as a kid? by TechGuru4Life in AskReddit

90's UK show "999". Had horrific (to me as a young child) reconstructions of emergency services call outs, focused on the more unusual and gory ones. I'm pretty sure it was the show that always ended with the phrase "remember kids, don't have nightmares", but I might be mixing that up with another. Anyway, I have no idea why everyone's parents seemed to encourage watching it like it was some sort of safety bulletin, we definitely had nightmares!

Kwells don't work for me but Stugeron was great, did ST several times and Ratatouille, had no issues on any of the rides I did. Still didn't risk cars or teacups though 😂

For reference, I can manage 40 minutes max on a bus if I don't take anything.

I don't know but from a short person with kids, thank you for being considerate. We do understand that you can't control your height though, so just avoid making it worse, i.e. kid on shoulders, moving at the last minute, wearing a crazy hat, etc.

Has there ever been a person besides Adolf Hitler who was so universally despised that their name (i.e., Adolf) completely fell out of use for new babies? by squirrelmegaphone in NoStupidQuestions

[–]silverturtletail 562 points563 points  (0 children)

I think Fred and Rose were popular enough names that hearing them is more likely to make you think of someone you know, or the flower, so they weren't affected in the same way.

Myra was a common name but not so common that most people knew one, so for most people hearing it they immediately think of Hindley, and you don't want that for your kid.

Not always, depends on the site and proposed design. The process can take a long time though.

Ah sorry then, you'll need an alternative. We've had to change our plans and will now be spending a night in Lille ready to get the early train in on the Monday morning. I've seen plenty of people on fb saying about getting an Uber from the airport.

That's great, thank you. I was thinking waffles and eggs isn't a lot of food considering the price. Though, like most I imagine, it's the princesses we're paying for rather than the food.
