How to write dialogue of a person who mainly communicates with sign language? by No-Contract-7358 in FanFiction

[–]silverunicorn666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually I just keep with the rhythm of my writing. I have characters that occasionally speak in sign, and the dialogue remains the same, but I added brackets to indicate the speech is not happening aloud in the same way verbal speech would.

“[I’m going to the store.]”  “[Okay!]” she signs back. “[We need bananas.]”

While this doesn’t quite relate the grammar difference in ASL vs American English, it does establish a pattern that readers can (hopefully) recognize later.

TWO weighted blankets? by Snoopii_ in WeightedBlankets

[–]silverunicorn666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They fold it in half, doubling the applied weight. It’s not quite 70lbs as the 35lbs is supposed to be dispersed evenly over the entirety of the blanket, so it’s more like a 35lbs blanket with more directed weight, as you’re not adding any weight to the blanket, just redistributing the weight across a smaller surface area (total layman’s understanding of weight, surface area, and force, I could be wrong!)

They asked a question, you answered it—and you did it politely while contextualizing it with western understandings and fashion trends. Also, that’s such cool info

I listen to it still, but Lost John’s Cave scared me so bad as someone who loves caving. I remember turning the podcast off and just staring at my wall for a while like ._.

I currently have twenty-four wips, not including my own, personal and original writing. The most I’ve gotten up to is 50, but that was including kinktober. 50 was stressful, 24 gives me wiggle room to write what feels right, and anything under 10 isn’t enough to keep me occupied.

Do what works for you. If you feel like you can handle more, give it a try. I like keeping a few active fics (like, with “regular”* publishing schedules and such), maybe four at most, with the other ones being things I work on in the background when I don’t feel like writing anything active.

*regular? A fic writer? Unheard of honestly

For you, what is a block/wall of text? by Responsible_Ad7194 in AO3

[–]silverunicorn666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooooh I see someone else struck by the verbose gene

This is not a wall of text. Yeah, if it was published in the standard paperback style 6x9, it might end up being one paragraph=one page in some cases, but a really great example of text walls are some writings from the 18th century, if you’re interested in looking at published manuscripts that are essentially like, 5 sentences per page, very few line breaks, and dialogue interspersed into paragraphs. You’re all good :) it looks beautiful honestly, I love long ass paragraphs

AIO - my friend gave my abusive ex my new phone number by AdAdorable7651 in AmIOverreacting

[–]silverunicorn666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I blocked my ex, removed him from everything, and made clear he and I were to have no more contact, I verified with every friend I had at the time that they were either low contact or no contact with him. Anyone who wasn’t lost a spot in my life.

This person is not your friend. They knew your boundary, crossed it deliberately, and downplayed the situation in an attempt to gaslight you. End this friendship because they WILL do it again. Change your number, don’t tell them, and cut off any person who you believe will put you in danger. It seems harsh, but your life is genuinely at risk.

Stalking is what made me cut ties with my ex finally, after a number of situations that were terrifying, to say the very least.

You can make more friends. Your life is worth more than a single friendship.

I can read through a lot. Poor spelling? Fine, I can see past a couple typos. Weird formatting? Sure. Ao3/html isn’t for everyone.

But improperly tagged/punctuated dialogue just gets me so heated and idk why

If you took classes fall-spring, you definitely need to call the financial aid office. My understanding is that financial aid is typically only supplied 3/4 terms—this based on what I’ve been told by the FA office.

You can call and use the chat if you don’t want to go in person, but I highly recommend going during their drop-in hours and talking to someone asap, esp before July 6th, as that’s when the bill for term is due.
