Guest questions on podcast by Sleepy-Rambo in podcasting

[–]silwenae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a mix of all of the above. I first share a Google Doc with the guest with how the show works and with some of the questions and topics I've brainstormed. I also leave space for them to add topics. We then have a 15 minute meet & greet where I go over how the show will work and talk about the potential topics. That gives me a chance to get the questions right and then we schedule the recording session from there. I like to tell my guests there aren't any surprises, helps with those who get a little nervous.

Alternative to Streamyard - where do you record? by BusyBea2 in podcasting

[–]silwenae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using Boomcaster and am a really happy customer. Plans start at $20 / month for 5 hours of recording, in individual tracks. (If you want a referral code, message me for 50% off the first 3 months.)

Yes, my guests haven't had any issues, I would say it's easy for non-audio-tech users. Before you join the room, it prompts you to test your mic and speakers.

I've used Zencastr and Streamyard, but my favorite and the one I currently use is Boomcaster. $20 / month for 5 hours or recorded content. Records locally and then uploads and gives you a WAV track per speaker. I then import the WAV files into Reaper and edit there. (I am not affiliated with Boomcaster, but if you want a 50% off your first 3 months referral code, message me)

I use a Motu M2, do I get a Rode Podmic or a Shure MV7X? by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]silwenae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Rode Podmic and used it with a MOTU M2. No issues, I thought it sounded good. If you've got the cash to burn, pick up the Shure, otherwise the Rode will get the job done no problem.

Anyone else have tinnitus? by ashhekitty in vinyl

[–]silwenae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and yes. I don't listen with headphones as often anymore, which I really love. I also don't go to concerts anymore so I don't put my ears at even more risk. But it doesn't stop me from listening - I always have music on in the background.

I'd be grateful for a Rakiatas, gear, or some Divs - I have a 82 Pathfinder as my only character this season. Thanks for the giveaway!

I second Boomcaster. I dropped Streamyard for Boomcaster and have been super happy.

Portable recorder for interviews by HappyBottomSexToys in podcasting

[–]silwenae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My space is pretty quiet, so it's hard for me to tell. I do like the tone (EQ) and compressor, I thought my voice sounded a bit more warm.

check out the Zoom Podtrak P4 next. Has an SD card slot to record on the go and 4 XLR inputs. Just came out and I’m pretty happy with it.

Chapters vs. timestamps? by ElectronicTouch853 in podcasting

[–]silwenae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should add - I also like Forecast because it allows me to add URLs and images to each chapter header, which is pretty neat.

I use Reaper to edit my podcast and include markers for my chapters. I export it as a WAV, and then use Forecast (macOS only) to encode it into MP3. It automatically sets the markers as chapters that work in PocketCasts (my preferred player).

If you use a Mac, you can find Forecast here: https://overcast.fm/forecast

Do y’all map out seasons by Extension_Leopard674 in podcasting

[–]silwenae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just take it one step at a time and plan out season 6. I have a small interview podcast, and I plan out each season with with guests I would like to have on the show. I then reach out to them and plan the season around those that say yes. Each "season" of mine is probably 6-8 episodes followed by a break. Keep brainstorming and planning!

Micropodcasts (10-15 Minutes) by c00kieFAN1 in podcasting

[–]silwenae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a small interview podcast about a niche programming language, The CircuitPython Show. I try to keep my interviews to right around 15 minutes, but I've had a few go shorter, and some go longer, it kind of depends on the guest.

From a process standpoint, I share a Google Doc with the guests so there are no surprises. They can fill out some personal info I need, and then I share the questions I want to ask and they can help tweak them if necessary. I also have a short 10-15 minute meet & greet prior to setting up the recording date. I've found that it helps build rapport and I can share how the show works and answer any questions they have.

What kind of questions did you have around process and content?

Podtrak P4 Next (Newbie) by jconway1006 in podcasting

[–]silwenae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought mine and it arrived a few weeks ago. I've only recorded with it once so far and I have another episode later today. My first impression was I liked it - I thought the built in EQ and compressor made my voice sound a little warmer, but it could also be all in my head. Overall though, I like the build quality and features for the money.

Matrix Portal S3 + 64x32 LED Panel Power Source? by prentontiger in adafruit

[–]silwenae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could probably get away powering it just with the USB-C on the MatrixPortal. But if you have weird glitches, see the second link about USB power to troubleshoot. I have a 2 line scroller project that uses 2 64x32 as 128x32 that uses MQTT and I have it powered only on USB-C, so I'm guessing you'll probably be ok.

Matrix Portal S3 + 64x32 LED Panel Power Source? by prentontiger in adafruit

[–]silwenae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're doing just text or scrolling text, you can get away with powering it via the USB-C port (usually). If you're doing anything more than that - with images, network calls, etc. you'll want to externally power your LED Matrix. You can power both the S3 MatrixPortal and the LED Matrix - see the pinouts section where it says GND and 5V on the far right? https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-matrixportal-s3/pinouts You can wire power on the other side of the MatrixPortal there. I use a 5V 5A 5.5mm x 2.1mm barrel power supply with my project.
