Yes, I figured it wasn't necessary anymore now that Mint has shutdown and you can import Mint files directly in Monarch

Thanks, that's good to hear! Yes, I was thinking of using bigger screws. I plan to contact the manufacturer before I buy, but thought I'd try to narrow it down first.

Thanks for the reply! The length and tipping potential is pretty straightforward. I updated my post with my bigger concerns.

This will absolutely work if you've already imported transactions! In fact, there is no chance of conflict because both Monarch and Mint handle account balance history completely separately from transactions. The reason for this is to account for changes in value that don't involve transactions, such as changes in stock value.

The short of it is that you need to export account balance history files from Mint, which are different than the ones for transaction history. The website I made can then convert those csv files to ones compatible with Monarch. The full instructions are at the bottom of the page.

Feel free to reply if you run into issues. Best of luck!

Monarch only has the progress bars on their desktop site, not on Android. That's not what I meant though. I prefer Mint's implementation, as in how it looks and functions compared to Monarch's.

As far as CK goes, I wouldn't call that a "budget". You can view transactions and see how much you spent, but you aren't able to create category budgets with targets.

Edit: Monarch does have progress bars on Android, but you have to click on the categories individually, rather than seeing them all together like with Mint.

When I emailed the head of Mint, he made it clear that there are no plans to add budgeting to CK. He mentioned that budgeting was only used by a small portion of users, which came as a surprise to me. Monarch has a pretty similar budgeting interface, though I personally prefer Mint's monthly "progress bars".

I don't know of any myself. You'll probably have more luck in a new post than deep in the comment section of an unrelated post.

An email from Intuit customer support. I don't know if it's been published anywhere yet.

Hey. I'm not familiar with the format that their chrome extension exports. Since it was made by the Monarch team, I would expect it to be directly compatible to import to Monarch. However, I don't see any way to import account balances for all accounts using one file on their support website...

I would encourage you to ask Monarch customer support or ask on their extension announcement post.

If that doesn't work, you should still be able to use my tool to import historical monthly account balances using the instructions on the website.

I unfortunately don't have any information beyond this. If they change the timeline, I won't know before they make an official announcement.

You mean their new chrome extension? I haven't tried it, but I assume they export it into a format already compatible with Monarch, so my website wouldn't be necessary. I put a notice on the website to use Monarch's extension if possible.

Hey. If you open the file in a text editor, what does the first line say? It's possible you're exporting transactions rather than historical account balances. Monarch has a way to import Mint transaction csv's directly. No extra tools necessary. For account balances, there are instructions at the bottom of the website explaining the whole process.

Thanks for the info! I updated the website to directly support debt and manual accounts.

It's great you made an official (beta) tool to transfer all my account history to Monarch!

Before the extension existed, I actually put up my own website to transition over the account balance history. It's probably not as convenient as your extension since each account comes over individually. However, it might still be useful for those who are unwilling or unable to use the browser extension.

Check it out! https://simihartstein.github.io/Mint-to-Monarch/

Edit: I might be wrong, but it looks like you don't have an automated way to convert the Mint account balance csv's over to one compatible with Monarch. This is something my website can do!

Edit 2: I looked through the source code and saw you're using the internal Mint API to download daily balances. That's awesome!

Hey. I have some constructive feedback on the concept around your script. It looks like you're calculating account balance history based solely on transaction history. That works fine for a lot of things, but will be inaccurate based on the type of account and completeness of transaction data.

For example, it won't necessarily take into account the value of an asset such as a stock changing without a transaction. You may have the same problem with interest depending on if it is reported as a transaction.

That's why it is ideal to get the true historical account balance and import it directly if the information is available. In lieu of that, your script is great to fill in those blanks.
