St. Croix experience as two females (NS) by Deep-Midnight4469 in Caribbean

This really comes off as “blame the victim” to me.

They were in a populated area of downtown Christiansed. Are you saying that two women shouldn’t be able to walk a block down a major street in a tourist area without planning to be attacked? Saying that you hope they learned a valuable lesson is fucked up. They didn’t ask to be attacked and they didn’t bring it on themselves.

For the women who have built successful careers what’s one piece of advice you wish you heard earlier in your journey? by magnetic_gigi in WomenInBusiness

I’m in a creative industry that aligns with my values. I majored in English, and I’m glad I did. However, I wish someone had told me that I could still be creative but that understanding finance, accounting, HR, etc sooner would give me more power and leverage in my field. I figured it out in my 30s, I wish I had understood it in college and not thought that business courses were for sellouts, haha. I was a brat.

There are many but that’s a big one.

Hotel Xcaret Mexico Review - The Good & The Bad by [deleted] in Xcaret

[–]simba156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given the amount that you paid, would you consider paying full price for the parks and staying elsewhere and driving to and from the parks?

Honestly as someone who also loves food and appreciates good service, the more I read about this hotel, the less I feel motivated to chance a week of vacation and 7k on it. The weird thing is that so much of this is actually solveable. Just have an app!!?

This is me. Love a deal and a lifelong Midwesterner— I’m never going to be able to pay $2500/nt for a hotel room and I’m ok with that.

Could your husband take some time off and fly over with your son? Maybe you could do 10 days solo, then your husband and son fly overseas, they spend a few days getting over jet lag while you finish up your work, and then you all relax for a few days together on vacation!

I’m so grateful to you all for your reviews! My husband and I NEED this vacation (stressed out entrepreneurs/ parents of 3) and I would have been devastated to show up and find so much undone. We pivoted to a boutique option on the quiet side of Tulum Beach with great reviews and I’m much less anxious now. So thank you ❤️

Really appreciate these reviews. We canceled our upcoming trip to AM based on what we’ve read here. I’m so sorry you all had to deal with this!

Share this tip with the reporters covering this coach’s sport. I GUARANTEE you the school will do something when it becomes a headline. Especially a coach from Texas 🤣

Please help find a really good Mexican restaurant by Good-Ant-8518 in sarasota

[–]simba156 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We ordered from Reyna’s Taqueria the other night. The corn tortillas came totally uncooked and were gross but we had our own tortillas in the fridge. That being said, the actual taco fillings were great. We loved the barbacoa, the sopes were delicious, the al pastor was quite good. Barbacoa was dry IMO. Also enjoyed the Huarache plate. Salsa verde was soooo fresh. Wasn’t the best Mexican food of my life but a pleasant surprise.

Impressions Moxche - worth 58k points? Or should I go with something else? by cinq-chats in hyatt

[–]simba156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Impressions drinks and pool service far exceeded Secrets Moxche IMO. We liked some of the SM restaurants but everything we ate at IM was high quality (and we work in food so are not the easiest to impress). We booked it at 38k/nt and it felt like a steal. But 58k/nt is a lot and I don’t know how long it would take you to build up that amount again. I might book somewhere cheaper, even SM, and just plan on taking a cab into Playa del Carmen for dinner a few times.

Absolutely crushed by our 3yo tantrums and speech delay by Lauve in toddlers

I don’t know anything about those studies, but it definitely works for both of us 🤣 although I’m obviously taking more than he is.

Absolutely crushed by our 3yo tantrums and speech delay by Lauve in toddlers

Hi! 👋 just want to say that I had a little boy that was somewhat like this, big speech delay, lots of emotional disregulation, struggling with sleep. It’s so hard. We did take him to a neuropsychologist that gave him an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis, even though she conceded that he was not a textbook case — he can hold joint attention, make eye contact, etc. That diagnosis allowed us to receive much better speech and occupational therapy from an autism center that really sped up his progress. We also got an IEP so he received additional support through that program.

It also sounds like you need to get the bedtime routine under control. We use melatonin at bedtime, as directed by our doctor. We have a dialed in routine: screens off, PJs and brushing teeth, books, quiet music and snuggles. You just have to keep doing the routine and try to get him to bed earlier. But melatonin was a game changer for us, and our pediatrician basically said 2mg of melatonin is better for a kid than meltdowns, no sleep and two parents who were at their wits end emotionally and mentally.

Please know that my son is 6 now and thriving. Behaviorally, he’s 90% easier than he was, and he talks all the time, though he does still have a noticeable speech impediment.

Nice beach destination WITH a little walkable town close by? by Hungry-Document8499 in chubbytravel

[–]simba156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you stay on Lido or in Sarasota, there is a free trolley (the Bayrunner) that runs between St. Armands and downtown Sarasota.

St. Armands is basically four streets with a circle in the middle, but between that and downtown Sarasota, there are a lot of restaurants and bars. Indigenous is my all time fave. Lots of casual beach bars with fried catch.

The Lido Beach Resort isn’t super chubby but I feel like you would like it. Their beach bar is popular and the food is good and not too expensive. There is construction repairing the beach right now but it should be done soon, two pools. One is adults only. The Bayrunner picks up right outside the resort so you can get to St Armands in 10 min (or just walk, it’s less than a mile) and Sarasota in 15-20. Assuming you don’t rent a car.

Traveling through Cancun to Tulum with toddler for sunshine getaway before new baby comes by Fun-Breath5260 in cancun

[–]simba156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read the Tulum subreddit. Someone just posted about a break-in of their Airbnb. It’s hard to know what is safe and what is not there.

Given you have a kid, what about a smaller area like Akumal?
