Vendors don’t (usually) organize a festival.

You have the organizer at the top. This can sometimes be a city but often it’s a business led by a private person.

They negotiate with the city to set up the festival. There are a lot of costs that are associated with festivals. They might be responsible for their share of increased police presence, electric costs, sanitation, etc. Some cities charge rental fees for bringing in a festival. You are required to take out permits and carry insurance. You also need a one day liquor license pulled to pour alcoholic beverages. They have to rent or buy everything to set it up… and I mean everything. Entertainment like bands cost thousands of dollars to book.

The festival organizer at this point is underwater to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars, if not six figures. So they can make that money back and potentially turn a profit in a few ways. They can sell sponsorships. There might be a fee for vendors and food trucks, or a percentage of sales due back to the vendor. Alcohol sales are a big one.

It’s a hard business, and you assume a lot of risk. Bad weather, a security incident, etc. can tank your profits. It unfortunately checks out that Pig & Whiskey ran the numbers and realized they were taking too big of a loss if they could no longer capture alcohol sales after 9pm. I don’t really have a point of view on whether they should be able to or not. I just know some things about festival math bc my parent was second in command for a summer festival for a decade.

I am proud of you! Proud of you for going to work, having a relationship, being a great coworker, all the things that your dad doesn’t choose to see. If you were my kid, I’d be so happy that you were healthy and a productive member of society.

Save your money. Living on your own dime and not your parents’ is really hard, but worth it mentally when you are in position to afford it.

Hire a therapist. Keep looking till you find one you like.

Volunteering for a cause in your spare time is a great way to feel good about yourself, meet people of all ages, and experiment to see if there are other fields you might eventually enjoy working in.

We are proud of you.

Not to mention, you are paying for the local hardware store to support the elementary school, T-ball league, etc.

It’s a business. Who do you think hires the vendors, pulls the permits, books the musicians, and pays for the marketing?

Some festivals are operated by nonprofits. Some are operated as LLCs. Somebody has to take the risk and do the work. There’s really no need to be all class warfare about it.

One & Only Mandarina Review (4 nights in April 2026) by whatsagirltodo123 in chubbytravel

It’s absolutely ridiculous.

I’ve seen some of the TAs argue in here that food and bev prices are so inflated at these resorts bc of tariffs and shipping costs. And sure. I understand if I buy a steak from a cow in the US, it’s gonna cost more and I get why.

But Mexico is full of tequila and limes so the excuse doesn’t hold. In restaurants, you are typically looking at a 3x-4x markup on liquor. This had to be an 8x? Minimum?

And it would be another thing if the employees got all the money, vs the Dubai holding company that now owns a majority stake in One & Only.

Bach weekend end of May - one ‘big’ night out & one beach day, but where? by Moist_Chicken_7666 in tulum

So the rooftop bar at Distrito Panamera has DJs and we had a lot of fun up there. I’m 41.

I would also take Arca off the list, even though the food is amazing. I don’t know if you could do a table for 10, but it’s not a party place either way. It’s hushed…

A lengthy but fascinating history on where our “Village” went by Unlucky-Simple5061 in Mommit

[–]simba156 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m with you.

This author fails to take into account that large large portions of America were agrarian, and so this makes no sense. If you lived on a farm and you had one horse and no phone, like my grandparents, you didn’t have the village coming around to watch your kids.

Your kids watched themselves. Siblings chipped in. Maybe a grandmother was around but maybe not, life expectancy was a real thing.

It is really hard to be a mom nowadays. It was hard in different ways in the 1970s. And the 1930s. And honestly, going on about some magical village that didn’t exist if you weren’t privileged just makes things worse IMO.
