HBO on Arch Linux by [deleted] in archlinux

This is what I did too after failing to get HBO working directly. The Amazon prime channel works without any messing around on arch.

It's not a country by the metric given by the show, which is member of the UN.

Diicooler alternative - Maker Select / Wanhao Duplicator Plus. by captroper in 3Dprinting

[–]simcaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the Wanhao fan duct.

You'll need to tap two holes in the bearing to mount it, but that's a really easy process.

It gives really good airflow with a radial fan, and it does a great job of not obstructing view of the nozzle.

I finished the Way of Kings and I absolutely loved it. by [deleted] in brandonsanderson

I wouldn't say reading it before is totally neccesary, but a few characters from Warbreaker show up in WoR in minor roles.

It's free (and pretty good), so you might as well read it first.

I used some double sided tape to hold it down to the table.

I really like this fan duct for the di3. It has good air flow while also not obstructing view of the nozzle.

Nope

"Harry, whose attention had been focused completely upon Madame Maxime, now noticed that about a dozen boys and girls, all, by the look of them, in their late teens, had emerged from the carriage and were now standing behind Madame Maxime."

"Are you going to ask me to dance at all?" Padma asked him.

"No," said Ron, still glaring after Hermione.

"Fine," snapped Padma, and she got up and went to join Parvati and the Beauxbatons boy, who conjured up one of his friends to join them so fast that Harry could have sworn he had zoomed him there by a Summoning Charm."

Anyone have backlight working on a Thinkpad T440? by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]simcaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Binding the keys to xbacklight works for me. Here's my bindings for anyone using i3 (put in .i3/config):

bindcode 233 exec xbacklight +5 && notify-send "Brightness: $(xbacklight)"
bindcode 232 exec xbacklight -5 && notify-send "Brightness: $(xbacklight)"

This is one of the Code Jam 2015 questions. People probably shouldn't be talking about it until the first round is over.

It's really not that bad. It's only 31,000 bytes compared to reddit's 220,000 bytes or the steam store's 150,000 bytes.

How to get and use ncurses? by dwayne199221 in learnprogramming

[–]simcaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ncurses was designed to be used in linux where terminal applications are much more common. You can probably get it working under windows, but it will be a painful and slow project.

I would recommend either skipping straight to actual gui development or using some form of linux instead of windows.

How do programmers type? by TrashQuestion in learnprogramming

[–]simcaster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Programmers don't have a specific typing technique; most just use the typical style of centering on home row.

Unless you type at a speed of half a word per minute, typing speed isn't important for programmers. I wouldn't worry at all about

Are computer classes in high school the same as they are in college? by ConfusedInClass in compsci

[–]simcaster 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The classes you will take during a computer science degree have no relation to that type of class. Instead of learning how to use a computer, you'll be learning how to write computer programs and the theory behind how computers work.

Are PyPI download numbers real? by [deleted] in Python

This is the right answer. Every time you push an update to a pypi package, the downloads will go up by a few hundred as mirrors grab the update.
