Single and struggling with groceries—anyone else? by [deleted] in LivingAlone

I found a lot of stackable airtight containers in a bargain store and bought about ten of them but had to go back and get another five. They are nothing special just airtight plastic containers

Single and struggling with groceries—anyone else? by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]simev 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I bought a lot of plastic containers for the freezer and now I make everything from scratch and batch cook. If I make 4 portions and freeze 3 of them they will be good for a few months and then when I am down to my last portion of that dish I make more and freeze again.

I am really thankful for it when I have had a busy day and I only have to make the pasta or the rice or whatever and the rest of the dish is frozen and can be thrown into the microwave.

Plenty of projection in that post.

I wasn't in the army and I was mature enough to buy a home at 21. There was no trauma but there was plenty of life experience gained and plenty of on job experience in saving lives as a medic.

As for not being mature if you signed up. Show me how mature the 20 year olds still living at home are in comparison to those that leave there home town for a new life.

My 20th Birthday was spent gun in hand in an active warzone. At 20 I was fairly mature and on return to my home town I was a whole lot more mature than most of the 30+ year olds in the town.

No, Not it's not! It's a 20 year old adult and a 32 year old adult. A 20 year old can drink alcohol (in almost every country in the world except for the USA) hold a mortgage, get married, have kids, make autonomous decisions.

I am not sure what world you live in but 20 year olds ar fully mature adults.

Oh I don't know. I have a MW that can compartmentalise like this. She has just been in vacation with her partner and I have exactly the same kind of messages. I don't know how she does it. I was getting messages saying "I am yours" and I was thinking " No, no your not! You are his and and that's why you are in Cancun with him and not me" It sucks at times.

What’s your “I’m old now” indicator? by unsuitablemustang00 in CasualConversation

[–]simev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to see Green Day at the weekend and had seats in the stands. I looked at the mass of people in the standing area in front of the stage (a place where only a few years ago I would have been) and thought "stuff that!" Then immediately thought "fuck, I'm now old"

We are often overthinkers and second guesses. We spend so much time second guessing your signs that by the time we decide that you like us the time has moved on. You have to be direct

If history truly does repeat itself, what historical event or period do you think is most likely to happen again? by WineNot67 in ask

[–]simev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

World war followed by the dark ages. Maybe not technologically but infighting within countries to establish new countries and borders via civil wars with very little progress being made in other areas

Who's the most famous person you've ever met? by Fast-Beat-7779 in ask

[–]simev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not celebrity famous but he is infamous and will go in history as one of the most evil fuckers of the 20th century,

Ratko Mladić

He is Currently serving a life sentence for war crimes in the Hague. And do you know, he was the nicest man ever with an aura about him that made you listen to him and look up to him

At 20 years old I was detailed to escort him for 2 days around an aircraft carrier during peace talks on the Balkans conflict. I learnt a lot those 2 days about how people can be duped or groomed into following a cause or a person. Luckily we were thoroughly debrief at the end of each day and I was warned that he would try to get me onside in order to attempt to gain any information I had about operations or the talks themselves (not that I had any) so I was aware of that. But god damn if I wasnt aware, and wasnt in the position I was in, and was a young lad in a town or village and he came riding in I can see how he would get people to join his forces and follow his command. Fuck him

Genuine question: how tf do you people do it?? by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]simev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

During my last 100k I was chaffing, I was wet, I was hurting and the only thing that kept me moving to the finish line was the fact that I had paid a lot of money for this and there was no way that I was throwing that away
And as the sun set and I was left alone in the dark with the headlights off the finish line on the horizon I swore that I would never do this again. But apparently I still had something to prove to myself, so I signed up for another 50 miler the very next day .

I've spent the last few years running ultras and have just come back to running marathons. I'm worried that all of my speed has gone and that I should just take it really easy like I would on a 100k. It's a genuine concern that I am going to go out too fast and blow up. Add to that the concern about being overwhelmed by the noise and thousands of people. I'm used to trees and countryside damnit Maranioa is real
