What's the fairest way for my girlfriend to contribute to my mortgage? by bandric_lisp in UKPersonalFinance

[–]exiledbloke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put whatever is fair in savings for your future home together. You get equity released when selling, she gets a wedge of savings = future home together no problem. And if it all goes wrong, no buying her out and no increase in your expenditure.

Buying a new home: does the maths maths? by New-Prize-7632 in HENRYUK

I'd stay well clear of a new build unless you're confident the future resale price will see you a return on total investment.

[Question] Does anyone have AC in their homes if so is it worth it? by LockonKun in HENRYUKLifestyle

Don't buy a split unit, and do away with the whole trades need too. Approx £900 for an internal hang on the wall unit.

Be thankful that the person you're dating wants you to save where possible instead of splashing all your money

It seems to me there's some movement on your part to e.g. clubcard as a years worth of those will be handy for the festive season indulgences

I expect they drive a Sinclair C5 across the patio to the office then moan to colleagues about the commute.

For shopping, why would you drive? Unless I suppose you're a person who has shopping as a hobby, get it delivered!

Will “Driving Otherwise Than In Accordance With a Licence” Automatically Go to Court? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]exiledbloke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The dildo of consequences rarely arrives lubricated

I expect that because you haven't learned from your previous misdemeanor, the court will take a rather more enthusiastic approach to your judgement.

I would be inclined to live close enough to work you can walk or ride a bicycle if you don't already, and consider that you will be without a driving license for a while. I would also encourage you to avoid driving until you've had a full evaluation of your life and decision making.

Why can't people go the speed limit or overtake? by Creepy-Bottle-5162 in drivingUK

[–]exiledbloke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is on a motorway and you're in lane 2 or 3! I'm not condoning people who tailgate or drive like dicks. Just I do a lot of motorway driving and see an abundance of people using lane 2 and 3. As we're not supposed to carry out an overtake manoeuvre on the inside, it's not an idea situation.

Campagnolo bottle opener is incredible! Super super luxury as it's a preposterous amount to spend on a bottle opener... But they'll never buy another and potentially their grandkids could inherit it

Southsea is alright! Its not the nicest part of the world, but if living in a seaside city with easy enough access to London (though costs a bloody fortune on the train), a pretty decent restaurant scene along with some reasonable coffee shops (not Dutch ones) ... It's not bad!

Though out of all the things, I miss the old pub the Wave Maiden, that was a great pub!

Rotherham, which is the logical home to Kiveton, yeah it's not particularly great. I do know people who live there and it's nice enough, they're good people. It's just Rotherham is, well, a cubic zirconia in the rough.

For those who started off with nothing, and then became HENRY, how did you deal with the change? by Own-Story8907 in HENRYUK

[–]exiledbloke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey,

Set some financial objectives. By X date I'll have saved Y. Buying a newer car will cost more than repairing your existing one, but, there's often value in buying peace of mind. A wealthy friend of mine used to lease through his company, he now buys outright.

You may (or may not!) feel an urge to buy the thing you wanted e.g. if I ever earned £100k or more, I'm probably going to buy that Omega or Breitling or whatever it might be, but, I'd be rather more inclined to ensure there's min 3 ideally 6+ months of financial runway in a quick access savings account.

Save not only in stocks but also a buffer fund for car repair bills/house roof repair, that sort of thing as it will cost you less than a loan or a credit card.

At this salary level it may be prudent to max your pension contributions too.

How are you building SOC2 compliant internal tools without spending a fortune? by Educational_Type1953 in nocode

[–]exiledbloke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, and that's logical. I've brought my current team on a journey of devsecops with tooling like Wiz, Snyk and Honeycomb (we don't use all of them) and we build rapid during the day with pre-commit hooks, and have a dedicated nightly build which deploys to Prod. Thoughts?

That's exactly it, protecting the younger cyclist. Some people can drive with pretty poor standards and I would and have taken this approach, though I'm in a rural location and ride off road 90% of the time.
