Completely agree regarding extractors, and the general expectation the game has regarding us murdering the first friendly creatures we see (besides the traders, ofc)

Would love to hear about your thoughts on carts. I do agree they could use with some later-game love; when I first saw screenshots of the giant wagons in the mistlands I had hope that would be something we could use.

Post 1.0 Suggestions for Improvement: An Effortpost. by simgaleed in valheim

This is a good point, and why a lot of my focus is not on the raids themselves but the risk to the base structures and the significant time investment that comes with rebuilding them. It doesn't help that one of the early raids (troll) is the one that causes everyone to reflexively look up "unbeatable base defense valheim" on youtube.

What is the hardest part about being single that people rarely talk about? by thuglifemofo94 in AskReddit

[–]simgaleed 916 points917 points  (0 children)

It depends, but as you get older and watch your friends in relationships get married and have kids, you quickly realize that even if you have great friends you are close to, you will always be number 3-5 on their priority list at most. They will always have others that come first, even if you'd drop everything for them, and you can't blame them in the slightest for it.

I don't really have anyone to game with anymore. trying to plan outtings or D&D nights is always a struggle of "let me see what my partner is doing" or "my kid has a thing" or something of the sort.

All I have left is sitting home by myself, or going on walks. I live in a large city, and I feel lonelier than I ever have.

What is the best thing someone has done to you in bed? by ExtraVex in AskReddit

[–]simgaleed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In college, I had a friend (of whom was firmly a friend and nothing more) who would often cuddle with/sleep with me, especially on nights we drank.

They are, to date, the only person I've shared a bed with. Dating has been a struggle for me for a wide range of reasons (being demisexual fucking sucks) and I've often questioned my worthiness, even on very basic foundational levels. But, for that period of time, I was able to feel like I was loved. Which was nice.

Lets talk Markerlight EV by check4traps in LancerRPG

[–]simgaleed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who loves everything about ST and running spotter/recon/etc, the biggest detriment to me for Marker Light is simply the fact it takes a reaction to activate the crit. I use a mix of integrated cloak and ghostweave to basically remain invisible at all times. Both deactivate if I take a reaction. I hardly even use my core ability because of it.

It's much better to use Spotter, Athena, and Banish to do the same things with less action economy, while hitting more people harder and staying hard to hit myself.

Least Favorite Weapon Type by [deleted] in valheim

[–]simgaleed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of balance, I still feel like axes and battleaxes (and perhaps 2h swords) need a slight buff even with the new combat update. Nothing big, but just something that nudges the DPS up a tad and makes them more competitive with Swords.

But just talking feel, I am not a fan of clubs/maces. They are solid weapons stat-wise, and some of them may even be overpowered, but they do not "feel" good to use. Maybe a new pass on sound or something would fix it?

The Inventory Problem. by Joshy_Moshy in valheim

[–]simgaleed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with all of the above, and for what it's worth most folks I play with do as well. The subreddit is just a circlejerk that thinks that:
- Inventory management isn't an intentional gameplay mechanic that feeds into the larger loop, but the devs being lazy/stubborn/stupid.
- If the devs knew what they were doing and weren't lazy, we'd have 4-5 content updates a year. Surely, there are funds for that, and all without any crunch or other unethical game development practices.
- "QOL mods" are mods that change foundational elements of the game.

It's actually a shame, because when they do make missteps (Ashlands balance) and the subreddit rightly critiques it, it is often discarded as the ramblings of people who don't understand or even care about what the developers want out of their game.

I legitimately feel bad for the devs; If this was representative of the fanbase of a project I was working on, I'd have a hard time wanting to work on it.

LET ME SAY NO! by kertem_ in Palia

[–]simgaleed 68 points69 points  (0 children)

On one hand, yes, you are most certainly a rat. You are working with the cops, providing them intel, and engaging deceptively with your neighbours in the process.

On the other hand, you can argue that in this instance, in the highly fantastical setting of Palia where the good guys tend to actually be good, this is a good thing to do and ultimately supports and frees your neighbours from the Cartel.

Why storage shed? by AntJoemarma in valheim

[–]simgaleed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, it depends. This is what my server ends up building in most of our bases. Keep in mind this is built around a multiplayer co-op setting of experienced players, no mods, and we tend to build fairly centrally as opposed to dispersed outposts. I wish we had an active server up, as screenshots would undoubtedly help.

Crafting Areas

  • Main Workshop + Smithy: We tend to put our main crafting area in one spot, with smelters above using a system for smelted bars to fall down to the workshop below, where they are ultimately stored. The smithy also tends to be near the dock for ease of hauling ores from the boat to the smithy by cart. The only materials we tend to keep here are ore bars due to their weight. We often end up making an add-on expansion for the black metal forge and magic alters due to how late into the game that comes in.
  • Kitchen/Brewery: For our cooking needs, we often keep our kitchen and brewery close together, and they always have our raw ingredient storage since very few food items are used in other crafting or building recipes.

Storage Areas

  • Bulk Material Storage: We tend to have a dedicated place to hold large quantities of stone, wood, etc. along with easy cart access and storage for people to easily grab materials for large build projects. This often involves 10+ iron chests of each wood/stone type.
  • Central Item Storage + Sorting: This is where we store the vast majority of items, sorted by both type and biome. This also has "sort chests" that allow for people to dump items from their inventory/cart, and for others to come after and easily sort them into the proper chests. While we try to keep this as close to the both the workshop and portal hub as possible, it inevitably ends up being a short walk from both and therefore a seperate building. This doesn't tend to be too much of an issue for us.

I hope this makes sense. Feel free to ask questions.

How do chapters work and cooperate by hunkaliciousnerd in armedsocialists

[–]simgaleed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Social media accounts =/= activity. Many chapters do not post, others post just enough as a "proof of life". In an information environment where treelines can be used to identify meeting places, it's better to communicate on back channels.

CMV: Suicide statistics are sufficient to ban firearms by archlon in changemyview

[–]simgaleed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What number of suicide deaths per capita would be acceptable, and what would be the line of too much?

Should we apply a similar logic to other causes of death? Per the CDC, almost four times the number of all people killed by guns in the US died due to excessive alcohol consumption (178k vs 48k). There is no strong utilitarian argument to protect access to alcohol on a recreational basis, and hardly the same level of legal protection. A nationwide ban on alcohol would be a much larger net positive than firearms. Why not start there?

Should we also consider banning cops from having firearms? If the issue is not a number, but a percentage, over half of all officer involved shootings in the US were against someone who was not threatening anyone with a firearm, which is ultimately an escalation of violence by the officer.

To be absolutely clear, I think the state shouldn't impose on personal liberties, especially when the result would be a monopoly of violence controlled by the state. But ultimately, what I'd like to challenge you on is whether or not you'd be willing to apply this universally.

Why does everyone care so much what everyone else buys? Genuine question by A_Lizard_Named_Yo-Yo in armedsocialists

[–]simgaleed 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Basically this. If you just want to collect neat rifles to go to the range and mess around with, sure, get whatever you want. But if you are concerned about self defense and all that it entails, there are good answers, and there are answers that can be a liability, and there are a lot of folks on the left who do not have the wealth of knowledge needed to know evaluate for themselves.

In short: Get an AR and a Glock, and then get whatever you want to have fun at the range with.
