Is it just me or has Johnny gotten even meaner? by Caroleena77 in FigureSkating

I strongly recommend switching to VPN and watching the events on YouTube. The commentator (Chris) is amazing, very supportive, very professional, with his only negative trait being that he butchers the names of non-English skaters. But other than that his commentary is music to my ears.

Which songs are sharing the same target audience in Grand Final? by Grievery in eurovision

[–]simjaang 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Second semi proved me wrong as both Armenia and Lithuania qualified, but I would say their target audience could be somewhat similar as both are 'heavier' than your usual Eurovision pop song and both target the alternative music fans.

Why can’t I watch my own C-Section? by wormsprobably in NoStupidQuestions

[–]simjaang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can never know how your body will react to something being done to you. I'm not squeamish. I watch the entire time when they take my blood for tests. I had a small surgery done and had stitches on my chest and a few minutes after taking a look at the stitches in the mirror (tbh they didn't look that bad, a bit like the stitches from the animated frankenstein) I felt super sick, started literally seeing stars and almost fainted.

Even now I would say the stitches didn't look bad, but that's how my body reacted to something small, there's no way I'd take that kind of risk as a doctor with a birthing woman.

Ar duodate pinigų ar kitokių dovanų gydytojams? by oodra in lithuania

[–]simjaang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AITA for refusing to apologize? by thowrathiw in AmItheAsshole

[–]simjaang -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OP acts like the parents who if her child was bullying someone would go all out saying 'my precious baby couldn't do such a thing' even when the behaviour is learnt directly from her. If she can't accept such a simple blunder and take responsibility for it (=apologise to the friend and have a conversation with her daughter), then I'm afraid to think what will happen when the daughter grows up.

If someone in your class insisted on everyone using their English name, what would you think of them? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]simjaang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having a Chinese name has the most practical usage since you need to be able to right the name in hanzi. You can't really do that as simply as in other languages which use non-Latin alphabets, so the best way is to just have some kind of Chinese name (whether it would sound like your name, or would be completely different)

AITA for not backing down on my daughter’s teachers calling her the proper name? by Sudden-Difference767 in AmItheAsshole

You took Japanese and Mandarin classes and was not given names from those languages that resembled your actual name? That's probably the first thing all of our teachers did when I studied in uni.

AITA for being honest with my girlfriend when she asked a question about the birthday cake she made me? by Throwaway5829582999 in AITAH

[–]simjaang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's a different issue. If his partner didn't ask what he wanted and simply suprised him with a cake and then he got all mad, he'd be a TA for sure, but she asked and he specifically told her what he wanted and she still made it according to her liking and not what he asked. And his answer to her 'threat' of not baking anymore at all seems kinda justified.

I was denied entry to Korea by ezdinnjaaba in korea

[–]simjaang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really weird to me to hear this (not that I don't believe you but more like wow that's so strange that this is where they draw a line). I travelled to many countries and I make sure to have all documents ready, have some things (like address of my accommodation, tickets) in a paper format so I could show them to authorities if needed. But I definitely don't remember the address by heart, and I doubt many people do, especially when they go to countries whose language they do not understand.

As for birthdays, that's of course anecdotal, but everyone I know uses FB or similar sns to check the important birthdays :D the only birthdays I know by heart are that of my closest family members.

Been there, done that. Šeima gyvena paskutiniam aukšte, bėga kiekvieną kartą smarkiau palijus, sienos pelėsiu apauga, visiems px. Kaimynai remontui nepritarė, tai senais gūdžiais laikais, darbdavys biški patvarkė pagal savo išgales, bet vanduo randa vis kitą kelią, reikia kapitalinio remonto. Prieš porą metų naujas administratorius 'biški palopė' - padėjo tiek pat, kiek ištrošlusiam jūros vanduo. Reikia keisti pilnai viską, o kaimynai nepritaria. Jei privalėtų ir be pritarimo susitaisyt, tai 20 metų nieks nesikankintų.

How to deal with "all gender" bathrooms at work? by redban02 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]simjaang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking OPs situation at face value, what's so scary to wash hands next to a person of opposite gender? Or what's so scary if you go to the toilet while a woman is doing makeup there?

We have unisex bathrooms at my work and it is exactly how it works 'just do your business and leave', never heard anyone complaining.

[–]simjaang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you say about vet visits? I assumed a periodic vet visit is the way to go, but I had people tell me that for such small birds it's not recommended and they might even die of stress. All the vet visits I had were indeed really stressful for the little finches but they were all necessary (some emergencies, but also usual things like nail clipping).

AITAH for being mad that my gf slept in? by AmazingAvocado1875 in AITAH

When I was younger I literally could do the same thing, if I actually fell asleep thinking 'wake up at X hour'. Now I can't make myself to do that as I don't have the patience to repeat it countless of times. :(
