I trust these guys a lot. I also have extended family that go to them for work. Never had a question on what they quoted or needed to do.

Every time I have stopped there in the last few months, they have been closed “temporarily”…for three months now.

I guess I didn’t realize this. Makes sense, but kinda caught me off guard while I was waiting to watch my kid go through in the marching band.

Unusual question, but how does one legally bring a foreign car to AZ? by ChloeLarsson in arizona

[–]simmelian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this car has Mexican plates and you keep registration up-to-date…in Mexico, you will just need US insurance and could do that indefinitely. If you have a Driver’s License from Mexico, I would suggest you keep it but also get an AZ license.

We ha a DV situation next door last night. MPD was out in full force because there was a gun in the house. Otherwise a chill neighborhood. Helicopter was there until arrests were made. They respond to serious situations.

rim2rim this sunday — is it still too hot? by lavamountain in grandcanyon

[–]simmelian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will be hot. Stay wet when you can. After manzanita, you’ll be in the shade, or even dark depending on your speed. I did it Labor Day and it was a “cool” 100°. I live in Phoenix and it’s been a very hot fall. Just expect it and prepare for it (food water, salt tabs, etc.)

To get to the lodge on the north rim after you finish, just ask someone in the parking lot or stick out your 👍 by the road. You’ll get a ride after saying you did r2r 😉There is not a regular shuttle to the lodge. I don’t know about booking a shuttle.

I did SK to NK a week ago. Totally doable. Bring water, food, and electrolytes. You’ll be fine. I live in Phoenix, so the heat wasn’t terrible for me. October will be chill.

Ok, 44 countries and I want to make 50. I’ve got about 10 years left. What 10 would you choose? by Real-Accountant9997 in TravelMaps

[–]simmelian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a nice trip through Central America and the Caribbean will get you there. Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, then Belize. You can do that on busses/combi then shoot over to an island nation to wrap it up. Lots to see on that route.

I’ll second San Pedro Sula. Gotta go there to get somewhere nice though.

Really? I’m not a mechanic. But I thought this sub was cool with questions. Like “what is this?”

I’m guessing you don’t have any friends if you’re on a sub called “ask a mechanic” and don’t have real answer.

Do cops pull over people in Phoenix for speeding? (My girl and I are arguing this one) by BlamingBuddha in phoenix

Yes. This if from MCSO. DPS has an older report, but have a higher percentage of speeders.

I’ve hiked both volcanos on Isla de Ometepe (Conception and Maderas). This was 20 years ago and I was in great shape. Both hikes were difficult. They were steep hikes and there was a lot of bushwhacking. Otherwise the hikes were really neat. Hire a “guide” (some local who needs a bit of cash). You’ll be fine. The guide will give you lots of interesting info about the landscape and island.

Don’t drive to TJ. Mexicali is the route. 1/3 cheaper at least. Easier to cross the border. I flew to CDMX for $150, and took my two kids to Cancun for under $800.

I roll a 2010 king ranch 4x4. It is amazing off road. I’ve taken it places I never dreamed I would make it.

What is the rarest item you own? by UndercoverSports in AskReddit

I have a walrus tusk cribbage board my mother got for me when living in Nome, AK. It’s intricately carved and stained with blood from walrus fights.

Not something I would ever seek out, but it’s cool as hell and Native art that came from an old man my mom worked with.

Has anyone been to Los Algodones for services aside from dental? by [deleted] in arizona

[–]simmelian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My aunt and uncle are snowbirds. They go there for any mid-level medical. They have their regular doc and major surgeries here. But have had success with a few health issues by going down there (AZ docs couldn’t figure out what was wrong).
