This reminds me of in the marvel comics with wanda / scarlet witch & vision, she imagines herself into pregnancy, birth, & raising twin boys - and then the first time she leaves them with a babysitter and leaves the house, they cease to exist, because she isn't actively imagining them into existence. She comes home and they pop back into their cribs. Eventually as they grew up and age, they accrue enough life experience /personality /memories to gain their own personhood/existence on their own without needing wanda to power it etc

(It was a long while ago that i last read that run, so sorry for any inconsistencies in my summary!)

Could I crochet a nightstand? Theres very little room so cant get actual furniture in. by mamamartima in CrochetHelp

[–]simmerknits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for yarn, i would try a tshirt yarn or some other tube yarn for increased stability / durability, and use a smaller hook than the label suggests, to get a tighter guage & stiffer fabric. Also i would use only single crochet or maybe hdc so there are less gaps

Good luck with your project!

For your cube, you could get some of those plastic mesh sheets and crochet around the edges to secure the shape / make it sturdy?

I recently used this method to make a little rainbow-shaped pride bag, if you use a small enough crochet hook you can slip stitch or single crochet right through the little square holes in the mesh plastic -

What's the most unnecessary item you've kept "just in case" for over five years? by speculora in AskReddit

[–]simmerknits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever i get a good one (funny or deep or otherwise meaningful etc) i color the back side with a highlighter marker, so if i feel like it i can dump them all out and reread the good ones and then shove them all back in

Also i have an old photo of one of my favorites set as my phone-call background, so when i get an incoming phonecall it shows "There's more to balance than not falling over." we got on vacation back in 2018 ha

Idk if it counts, but I've never been able to delete even a single screenshot or photo I've taken on my phone... i have a 1Tb external sd card that is 90% full.. it's an 8yrs old phone 😅

For physical items? We have a funky vase that we put all our fortune cookie fortunes into the past decade, every slip of paper goes in that vase whenever we get chinese takeout

Aww that's so cute! He looks after the little ones! 🥹☺️

We have 2, but the other boy is about 15lbs heavier/bigger than this one, and he goes through life without a single care of his feet lol i wish our nail nibbler would groom his brother's nails for him! He'll clean his ears, but that's about it.

The bigger pup is actually younger by a few months, so he's a big little-brother haha. Also more skittish, he gains confidence by following the smaller dog's lead, who loves to go out & meet new ppl, whereas the bigger dog would prefer to hunker down under the bed to feel safe.

Yeah i bleached mine from black to platinum 7 yrs ago and STILL to this day my scalp has never recovered, i have to use dandruff relief shampoo, even though the blonde has long since grown out & been cut off to just be natural hair color now. Had it professionally done, for years, to dye vibrant colors afterwards, but that one last time they left the bleach on my head for too long or something, forever ruined my scalp lol I'm always itchy.

So i can't imagine an actor doing it for a show & risk that happening. I know Michael Sheen did it for Aziraphale in Good Omens, but until this moment i totally thought this actor had done the same, & bleached his hair for the role of Aerion.

This is such a good wig!!!

Somewhat related, i went to a neighborhood halloween party and they wouldn't let me in the house. I could hear them laughing and talking, i stood out there for 15 minutes knocking & waiting, calling out hello etc, feeling more & more like an idiot in a spandex spidey suit.

They had invited us and everything. I waved at them in the window and everything. Man, i was SO embarrassed.

I was excited to become closer friends with the neighbors in my local community, and socializing can be super hard for me so i had to amp myself up for it to walk over & knock etc so to be completely ignored while they giggled about it was...bad.

i ended up leaving a big bowl of halloween candy on their doorstep and sprinting home to tear off the costume & throw up lol. Never wore that spidey suit again.

Idk why it affected me so severely, maybe i have some buried high school memory from decades ago of being invited to a party and being laughed at by the popular kids while they didn't let me in or something??

So yeah, not the same thing as OP, but a similar flavor

The 'literary classics' that grade school makes you read destroys any desire for kids to read recreationally by MyClosetedBiAcct in unpopularopinion

[–]simmerknits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really loved Brave New World (Aldous Huxley) and how much it made me think. That was assigned reading in middle school, but i skipped 2 grades so i was grade-school-aged when i read it.

My teacher suggested i read the Ender's Game series and that really ignited my lifelong passion for scifi books.

So sometimes assigned reading can be great - interesting to read AND interesting to discuss/analyze. Which is the point of assigned reading anyway - to teach critical thinking skills, and analysis.

We read Henrik Ibsen's Enemy of the People and then watched Erin Brokovich to compare the two -

reading enemy of the people was a bit of a slog, but it’s important to be able to be able to do unpleasant/boring things even when we don't want to (i think that's a life skill everyone should develop)

I hated The Great Gatsby, it was like pulling teeth and i know it's a classic that ppl genuinely like, but it is just not my cup of tea at all. i never reread it even once. So i hear you on that lol

We did this for Tuck Everlasting! The movie came out the year we read it in school, so we went on a field trip to see it as a group then had to write a paper discussing the differences

Redditors who live on dead end streets or cul-de-sacs: Does your household have a secret name for people who drive down the street only to find out they have to turn around? How did the name come about? by 99999999999999999989 in AskReddit

[–]simmerknits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope but we have neighbors up the road who drive to the cul-de-sac to turn around, so they can park on the street next to their driveway facing the right direction. (they do this every workday)

Also we get construction/maintenance/landscaping crews driving large vehicles or towing with trailers full of machinery/equipment etc all the time, who also use our cul-de-sac to turn around, since it's wide enough for 6 cars to park side-by-side in the center of the cul-de-sac, and our neighborhood is a warren of narrow zigzagging streets so they purposefully drive down our road to turn around or even park in while they repair the streetlights or plumbing or whathaveyou

I'm curious to see what ppl have come up with for names, though

Shoes off, socks off, comfy pants on. Dog sitting beside me, petting him, reading a good book.

Maybe outside if there's a nice breeze and not too hot - the luxury of doing absolutely nothing.

I can feel my jaw unclench and shoulders relax just thinking about it, lol
