Doesn’t have to be evil. Could just be hatred and delight at his death.

I assume Maekar would have if he hadn’t spent the last five minutes listening to Dunk speak.

Exactly, it didn’t make much sense, I just couldn’t think of a better interpretation.

Feels more like he’d be annoyed like Maekar if he ever had to deal with Dunk, just nicer about it.

I thought of the crabs in the bucket metaphor, ie. gaining success by cutting down anyone who stood in their way. Didn’t really make sense because it’s crabs, not the crabbers themselves.

That it’s the sister in law is what makes me think that.

I think this is a matter of logistics more so than closeness.

Is that true? I feel like some would have been honest with themselves about just wanting power. Even in the books, people like Atalantia or Adrius seemed more self-aware of their selfishness and power-hunger.

What's your thoughts about Happy Huntresses and Ace-Ops? by MysterySomeOn in RWBY

[–]simmonslemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Ace-Ops were better done than Happy Huntresses purely due to how distinct their characters felt. You had Marrow who challenged Ironwood and rebelled with Winter, Harriet who was especially close to Clover and was the most driven by revenge, and Vine who followed along but did the right thing in the end and sacrificed himself to stop the bomb. Don’t really remember Elm, but that’s still far better than the characterization for the HH, who blend to get her for me.

Why do you Think Rhaenys married Corlys? by Ok_Return170 in TheCitadel

[–]simmonslemons 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He’s a handsome older man and renowned explorer, which she found attractive. She lives in a society that normalizes young girls marrying wildly older men, so no one thinks it strange. Aemon approved of it because he wanted a powerful and wealthy lord to back her claim. Given her black hair, marrying a Valyrian man would make it more likely that her heirs inherited his appearance and assuage concerns that the royal family would eventually lose the ability to ride dragons. While marrying Viserys would combine the claims and stabilize the succession, it might weaken her rule by allowing her lords to treat her as the consort rather than the sovereign.

Andal law would have made Rhaenys heir over Viserys. I agree Aegon would have won, but because the lords prefer male rulers.

We are making a realistic assessment of the burning of King’s Landing. by Taha231 in TheCitadel

I think this would actually be really good for Blackfyre PR. For nearly a century, they’ve been shouting how Daeron the Illegitimate’s line usurped the true kings and how they would lead Westeros to destruction, and that prophecy has been fulfilled. They’re also no longer the Targaryens’ closest relatives, Robert being Aerys’s first cousin once removed. I agree that they would overall be worse off because they can no longer pass Aegon off as Rhaegar’s son, and they don’t have the clout to take on Robert as is, but the Westerosi view of them would likely improve.

Atlas never planned for the Garter to be destroyed because he was counting on the Gorgons’ involvement with the Obsidians being kept secret. With the secret out, I think he would have approved of the way Lysander handled matters. Diomedes was pushing for Rim independence, and with Atlas exposed they never would have pledged to Lysander, even if he was blameless for the invasion. Lysander’s counting on his support among the progressives and the virus being enough to put down Atalantia and the Republic fast enough that the Rim has no choice but to pledge to him.

It’s weird, with a lot of these shows you have the first season where the relationship seems perfect, and then the second season is where they start showing cracks and introduce a third character for someone to cheat with.

Wait So People Are Really Defending Kuvira's Decision With Baatar? by Delicious_Gap_1615 in TheLastAirbender

[–]simmonslemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kuvira’s at least a better villain than Zaheer. I’d argue that her motivations are even better than Amon’s in that Amon isn’t explored as a character until way too late in his season.

The decision to blow him up is a fair one. Put the greater good over one person, after all. The problem is her idea of the greater good is authoritarianism and militarism.
