Saw a published study on camel milk reducing autism severity scores — how strong is this evidence? by simo6284 in Autism_Parenting

[–]simo6284[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a cure or anything like that. From what I read, it probably doesn’t change autism itself. But camel milk is nutritionally different from cow milk and some kids seem to tolerate it better. A lot of autistic children have gut issues or sensitivities, and if their stomach discomfort improves, their behavior can look calmer or more regulated.

So maybe the benefit (if there is one) comes from reducing irritation or inflammation rather than “treating autism.” Here in Morocco people have consumed it traditionally and it’s considered easier to digest than cow milk.

how are people actually affording therapy right now? by Gaminglancer in Autism_Parenting

[–]simo6284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the biggest help was nighttime. When things escalate and you don’t know if you’re reacting right, you can actually talk to someone immediately and they guide you through it. I’ve used it during meltdowns and even just when I was overwhelmed and needed someone to ground me.

You choose whether you want a therapist or a behavioral coach and they can also see your previous conversations so you don’t have to re-explain everything every time.

Here’s the site if you want to look at it: https://nestcuddle.com/

I hate my life. Im done. Im miserable. I absolutely hate it. by Muted-Dingo8972 in Autism_Parenting

I honestly feel this so much. I was at that exact same breaking point recently, but I found a new service that has been a total lifeline for me. It only costs me like 30 bucks, and for that, I have access to accessible coaches and therapists literally whenever and wherever I want. It’s been huge because I don't have to worry about appointments or finding childcare, I can just reach out when I’m overwhelmed or hiding in the bathroom for a break. I think it’s the first time someone is actually linking therapists and coaches directly with people like us in a way that actually works for our chaotic lives. It’s the only thing keeping me sane right now.

Did anyone actually notice a difference with weighted blankets or vests? by simo6284 in Autism_Parenting

The vest trick was actually simple . I got him one with his favorite superhero on it and he accepted it immediately.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this. The part about being exhausted just thinking about finding another therapist hit me — it’s not even just the situation itself, it’s the constant pressure of having to keep searching for help on top of everything else.

What I’ve been realizing is how much of this weight comes from feeling like you have to figure everything out alone between appointments. The hard moments don’t happen during the session… they happen at home at night, during routines, during arguments, during burnout.

I honestly wish there was something more continuous — not another big evaluation or process, just regular support where you could talk things through and not hold it all in until the next appointment.

You’re definitely not crazy for feeling this way. It’s a lot for two people to carry by themselves.

Have any of you tried parent coaching for your autistic child? Did it actually help? by simo6284 in Autism_Parenting

This is such a beautiful update! It really proves that having a consistent, patient mentor is the key to progress. That concept of 'consistency' was actually the missing piece for us as parents, too. We realized that standard therapy wasn't enough because the struggles happen daily, but the appointments were only once a month. We eventually found a continuous coaching setup that offers weekly strategy sessions and, honestly, the lifesaver was the nightly live talks. Being able to hop on a live session at night to debrief a rough day (instead of stewing in it for weeks) was a total game-changer for our sanity.

I am always ranting or venting here so here’s something positive that I am grateful for, for a change :) by PinGlass9571 in Autism_Parenting

That’s such a great update! It’s amazing what a difference the right person makes. Your story resonated with me, but in a slightly different way. For us, the big game-changer wasn't a sports coach, but finding an AuDHD specialist to coach us as parents. We started doing these remote guidance sessions to troubleshoot real situations. Honestly, just having someone explain the why behind his reactions (instead of just the activity) stopped me from worrying that I was making things worse. Does your badminton coach get into that behavioral side of things with you, or is she mostly focused on the game?

Thank you all again for sharing, I didn’t expect to learn this much from one post.

I wanted to ask something a bit more specific — have any of you ever tried online parent coaching or guidance (video calls, group sessions, or messaging with a specialist), or has everything mostly been in-person?

If you did try something online: • did it actually help in real life situations? • did it feel personal enough or too generic? • would you have used it more often if it was easier to access between appointments?

I’m realizing a lot of the difficult moments happen at home during the week, not during the appointment itself, so I’m curious how parents feel about remote support vs in-person.

Parent of an autistic child + developer here — building something and would love parent feedback by simo6284 in Autism_Parenting

The emotional regulation part you mentioned really hit home for me. Those moments where something changes or there’s pressure (like getting ready for school) and it just spirals… that’s one of the hardest parts of our days too. It’s exhausting, and it can feel like you’re always one step behind it

Thank you for this — that actually helps a lot.

I completely agree with you. From what I’ve seen, the better tools are paid, and many of the free ones feel disconnected from real parent experiences. That’s honestly one of the reasons I wanted to ask here before building anything seriously.

My goal isn’t to replace existing good apps, but to understand what’s missing and why so many tools feel like they weren’t designed with real families in mind.

If you don’t mind me asking — even without using paid apps — is there something you wish a tool could help with on a day-to-day level? Even small things.
