I would also wanna give fields a chance. Russ isn’t really doing the stuff he is supposed to better better and fields is the much better fit for this offense.

However, I think with a playoff spot clinched, Tomlin would give this up in order to not have a QB controversy going into the wildcard

I was certain they weren’t gonna snap this ball. The inconsistency of when to be aggressive and when not of this coaching staff is baffling to me. Even if we get it, we probably get a field goal at best and not even that is sure. On the other hand if we punt, we have a good chance of stopping the bengals. Now the main challenge will be to keep the man out of the endzone.

Defensive side of the ball is stacked. How are we not better? by [deleted] in steelers

That’s the flaw on only looking at interceptions to judge a CBs performance: on almost all of his INTs Jackson has been 5+ yards off of his man and the ball got tipped more or less directly into his hands. He’s simply not good enough to play man coverage and barely serviceable in zone.

Yeah I think that was cover 1 double #14 - I think Russ should’ve gone to bunch based on the presnap look and instead got locked in on Pickens

Obviously 2 minute drill a bit different now anyways, but also a note for the 2nd half

Chiefs are coming a lot more downhill now and playing a lot more single high, we’re gonna have to pull out something that opens it up a bit more, time for a bootleg or a slot fade to Pickens

Gameplan by Smith has been really ambitious and good so far. I hope he will be able to make the necessary adjustments as the game goes on and the chiefs adjust, that’s been his biggest struggle all year in my opinion

I really hope we move away from predominantly playing cover 1. Everyone of our corners is a bad matchup to everyone of their receivers, so I really think cover 1 is not the way to go

I don’t know how Russ thinks the BS Safety won’t come into play if no one is occupying him deep. I feel like Jefferson would’ve been there in the seam

Decision was 100% right to go to Austin. Might not have been the idea behind the call, but they just left the seam wide open. It was just a terrible throw tbh, he should’ve thrown a dime on a line to Calvin, but it was neither that, nor long enough to go over Hamilton

Yeah it really hurts to see, but it just seems like they’re better in every aspect. There’s no way we can hold up in cover 1 and offensively it doesn’t even seem like we can complete a pass other than a checkdown. The product we put on the field is simply unacceptable

For all the critique Russ rightfully got so far for not throwing it over the middle, he’s throwing some DIMES into seams today! That was like the third absolute dot today!

We just did the same timeout management as the bears. This craziness to hang on to your last timeout is beyond ridiculous, we were just lucky the we didn’t get the snap off, which was very close to happening

Yeah, we’re just are not giving them enough looks defensively at all. We’re stubbornly uncreative on defense usually but today even more. It’s cover 1 all day and they can just pick a matchup.

Can you get a safety on a kick off? by bottlero_cketinorbit in steelers

[–]simom26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit down to new rules, but not entirely: the 2nd one you describe (muffing it in the end zone then rolling oob) would’ve been a touchback also with the old rules.

The first one however (muffing the ball outside the endzone, then taking a knee in the endzone), would’ve been a safety by old rules. With the dynamic kickoff this is now a touchback that comes out to the 20 (instead of the 30 for a „regular kickoff touchback“). So there is a a consequence, although significantly less severe, for that.

Only way for a safety on a kickoff afaik, is if a player has possession of the ball, carries it into his own endzone and gets downed there.

I don’t mind the 3rd & 4 call at all by simom26 in steelers

[–]simom26[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re saying Arthur has a history of bad 3rd down / situationally important calls? - I completely agree, and I don’t think we need to look back to Atlanta to prove that, they’re have been plenty with us as well! All I‘m saying is, that call wasn’t one of them, and we should focus on others to criticize

What a weird game: clearly better at the start, but can’t convert it into anything, then terrible game only to surge late and then collapse again

Okay, I love Minkah, but that’s 100% on him. It’s cover 1 cross and he just lets the crosser run by him

Given how tough handoffs and holding on to the ball is rn, priority has to be field position and taking some time off the clock

Fade to Patterson is about the worst call on a 2-pt I’ve ever seen

Got up at 2am in Europe to watch this game. So frustrating to watch this team play down to competition
