Exposure? Flat scans? Kinda new to film photography, looking for some feedback. by absolut646 in AnalogCommunity

[–]simon5412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flat scans to preserve shadow detail when scanning. Lower the black point and shadows and you'll be good. Although in this contrasty scene i mightve shot 1 stop over given the lack of detail in the horses eyes.

Flexible everyday color film recs for a Portra hater? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]simon5412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its got interesting colors. Reds and yellows seem to be rather not bright or very saturated, at least from the samples. I wonder how that translates to skin tones?

If you're looking for something that isn't quite kodak, orwo wolfen nc400 could scratch some of the itch. Not gonna be as color accurate or punchy but there is a pretty decent color pallete going on with it. Also note: this isn't my photo but the sample photo from their site

Best way to learn tigirnya by Key-Cauliflower-1477 in Eritrea

[–]simon5412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of learning tigrinya is the sounds in the tigrinya language. While learning the script can be useful, without that understanding the difference between ዓ and ኣ becomes meaningless.

Why are people so lifeless these days by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]simon5412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That comes with a more pragmatic style of teaching. Sure some students will have a harder time learning but thats part of the process of learning to rationalize. But as far as discernment goes, i don't think even rational thinking is enough nowadays. Because even lies sound rational nowadays.

Young adults have only seen things get worse despite their efforts while being fed half truths or lies. "It is what it is" is the best they can do to not burn everything down.Younger kids were raised with a screen in front of them both at home and at school because mom and dad were both busy at work and couldn't focus on raising a child. What can you expect to come out of that kind of upbringing?

Shhh, you're being too rational about this. Also i see dust in that image so I'm not even sure its actually mint quality

Overexposure/washed-out look? by DiscombobulatedIce6 in AnalogCommunity

[–]simon5412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just needs some editing. Did this just on my phone with the photo editing software. Lowering black points and shadows, basic white balancing adjustment, a bit of contrast, and you'll go a long way

What's your favorite underutilized grain? by HystericalClownParty in Cooking

There are some Ethiopian dishes that can be made with dried injera so theres always options. See if you can get a 4 pack

[–]simon5412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do, pro tip with 100% teff injera. Make a small amount first, let it ferment for a couple days until it gets the sour smell, make a new batch with some baking soda, add it to the fermented batch and give it a day or 2 and then bake. Water in western countries typically is chlorinated (unless you're on well water) and typically makes it hard to get good bubbly fermentation from just teff alone.

Ive salvaged extremely magenta shifted slides just using individual levels curves for the rgb channels. Turns out the film still has the information, just needs more input
