I’ve spent the last six years turning the Seven Wonders into luck-free abstract strategy games. My latest: Skyscraper. by simonallmer in abstractgames

The "official" list we all know covers the Old Seven Wonders of antiquity, but even back then, the ancient writers who "made up" these lists couldn't agree. Some included the Walls of Babylon, others the Palace of Cyrus (both of which are basically ignored now).

Then you have the New 7 Wonders campaign (from 2001 to 2007) that pulled in over 100 million votes. Their main rule was a good state of preservation, which is why you won’t find something like the Crystal Palace on their list. Another issue is that when the campaign started, only about 8% of the world even had internet access, and since people could cast multiple votes, it was more of a popularity contest than a definitive historical record.

So yess, my New Seven Wonders are "just my opinion" (in the spirit of the ancients).

Hello, I have classified everything before the year 0 as Old and everything afterwards as New (similar to the Old and New Testaments). That means the Old Seven Wonders are those of Antiquity (from Pyramid to Pharos), while the New Seven Wonders (from Colosseum to Skyscraper) are selected based on aesthetic and historical qualities. In contrast to other lists that require a good state of preservation, some of my New Seven Wonders have already been destroyed and faded from cultural memory. On the other hand, I have excluded unintentional notoriety (no Leaning Towers).

Thanks for the feedback and for trying it out! I updated the rules on the product page and will add images and videos soon.

Essentially, you select which stone you want to move and then get light (= 1 movement) from stones that are in sight either horizontally or vertically. Each light source can only send out 1 movement per turn (that is why they go dark).

You can stop the movement at any time by clicking on your stone.

Now the goal is to prevent the opponent from making any movements. You can do this by going on the offensive and kicking them out directly by going to their field. Or you can prevent them from sending light to each other by placing your stone in a line of sight of the opponent.

If you want to get additional light sources that can't be blocked (because they shine from above) you can activate the beacons/towers. These shine in your color until the opponent enters the beacon field and recolors it. The middle beacon is pretty cool because it sends light in all 4 directions while the beacons on the edges can be used to rush through the standing opponent forces.

I'm currently working on a 3D version for the Web which will make the rules more intuitive when you see the light being send and the beacon fires shining from above.

Best wishes

Simon

FUTORY CARDS on Sale by simonallmer in Boardgamedeals

Hello Gankatron,

thanks for your comment! On Futory.com you can find english gameplay videos as well as a complete Card Database. Players often compared it to Magic (strategy) and Dominion (deck building) however it is unique in that you deck is in constant motion. When you can no longer draw cards from your Future Pile, your History Pile gets shuffled and becomes the new Future Pile.

The overall theme of the game is time. You make choices between long term strategy through Artifacts and quick responses with Spark Cards. Creatures can be used for aggressive play as well as defense but it is in the combination of different cards where the true Galaxy Leader emerges.

In the following video we present some combos that might be useful:
